Teo is planning a trip to the Swiss Alps from July 6 to 12, focusing on places like Brienzer Rothorn, Grindelwald, and Lauterbrunnen. They need help figuring out how to divide their five days and the best ways to reach their destinations. Their flight is to and from Basel.
I’m going to visit the Swiss alps (6-12 July) and I was wondering if you can help me with the plan.
In general I want to visit Brienzer rothorn, Grindelwald (first mountain cart), Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Murren, Gimmelwald.
Unfortunately I have no idea how to split the days, if 5 full days are enough, if they are other things to visit, how to reach them etc.
Based on your wish list, I think spending all 5 days in the Jungfrau region would be a good idea! Choose just one home base and play our day trips from there. I recommend either staying in Grindelwald or Wengen if you like an alpine setting. Below is a simple itinerary to give you some ideas on how you can plan your trip.
There are a lot of options depending on your interests. Brienzer Rothorn could be combined with a visit to Schynige Platte (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/schynige-platte/) or a boat ride on either of the lakes. Lauterbrunnen, Murren, and Gimmelwald are close to each other and could be combined with a visit to Schilthorn as well as the scenic Panaramag walk between Grutschalp and Murren. I would combine Wengen with Grindelwald/First. Perhaps Wengen to Mannlichen by cable car and then the short scenic walk to Kleine Scheidegg then train to Grindelwald. There are also some short easy and scenic hikes out of First, namely to Bachalpsee (https://www.myswissalps.com/blog/hike-bachsee/) or Grosse Scheidegg. You could then return to Wengen by cable cars. Another popular destination is Jungfraujoch. A walk down Lauterbrunnen valley is very scenic as well. I would suggest Wengen as a base town with Grindelwald as a second choice.
