Swiss Family Card for children with grandparents?

Short summary – read this first

Shiv is planning a trip with his two children and their grandparents and wants to know if they can use the Swiss Family Card together. Unfortunately, that's not an option, but he learns about the Children's Co-Travelcard as an alternative. He seeks clarity on its validity and whether it can be combined with other travel passes.

Key takeaways:
  • The Swiss Family Card is only for parents traveling with their children.
  • The Children's Co-Travelcard is available for a fee of 30 CHF per child and can be purchased by any adult.
  • You can combine the Children's Co-Travelcard with other travel passes like the Swiss Travel Pass.

    Hi Shiv,

No, that won’t work, it’s only for parents traveling with their children. But the Children’s Co-travelcard might be a good alternative for you. Please see:

    Hi Arno,

    Thanks for your quick reply.

Does the Children’s Co-Travelcard have the same validity as of Swiss Travel Pass ? Can non-Switzerland citizen use the Children’s Co-Travelcard? I saw on SBB site that it costs 30 CHF per child, does one have to club it with any other travel pass/ticket?

    Regards,

    Shiv

    Hi Shiv,

On the second page I gave you, you’ll find several links under “More on other websites”. You’ll find more details there. This product was introduced only two months ago. It is valid on the network of the Swiss Half Fare Card; you’ll find a map here. As far as I know any adult can buy it, and any ticket or pass for the adult can be combined with it. So you can buy a Swiss Travel Pass for yourself, for example.
