Swiss ski classes for family/kids in Dec

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is excited to plan a trip to Switzerland for 13 days at the end of December 2023, bringing along a child. They are looking for recommendations on family-friendly ski schools and want to know how many days of lessons would be suitable for their child, along with whether they should stay at a ski resort for lessons.

Key takeaways:
  • Most ski resorts in Switzerland have ski schools that offer group or individual classes suitable for all levels.
  • Consider booking a week-long ski course for your family, typically running Monday to Friday, to ensure foundational skills.
  • Staying close to the ski resort is ideal for convenience, but it's also possible to commute if desired, just plan ahead for storing gear.

    Hi!

It’s been coming 7 years since I went to switzerland. Finally planning to make a trip end Dec 2023 for about 13 days and will be bringing a kid along.

As we have never done skiing before, I was wondering if there are any recommended ski schools for family? If there isn’t any for family, we are ok to just let my kid try ski lessons on her own.

How many days of ski classes are also recommended for exposure and that hopefully we can go to the other mountains and do simple skis on easy slopes?

At the same time, do we normally need to stay at the Ski Resort if we want to go for ski lessons?

    Thank you!

    Hello klijing,

How exciting! Skiing for the whole family. I enclose a useful link for you to read: https://www.myswissalps.com/activities/winter/beginnerski

Do you know where you will be staying in Switzerland as yet? I would say 99.9% of ski resorts, have ski schools. Group or individual classes can be booked to cater for all levels.

Everyone learns skiing at a different pace. For example, a week’s course would take place Monday to Friday: typically every morning or afternoon. It would be safe to say one is able to ski after this.

If you wanted to ski as a family, I would speak with the ski school onsite and discuss what would work best. They may recommend that you join a scheduled group course or you could opt with a private group lesson.

Ideally, it would be practical to be close to the ski resort but it is also doable if you wished to stay a little further out. You would just need to commute in for your lessons. (Just bear in mind, you would need to carry your skis/ski boots to your lessons, if there is no storage available at the ski resort).

I hope this gets you started.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
