I started my order to get (2) 15 day travel passes. All of the literature that has been published by you and by SBB about this discounted pass indicates free cancelation within 4 days of travel, yet when you are about to place your order, you have to agree with the Terms and Conditions, which includes very restrictive cancelation policy. Do you know which cancelation policy applies?

Cancellation for passes purchased via this promotion is free of charge for all mentioned retailers, including HappyRail. The reason is that the SBB system does not allow buying for next year until later in the prior year (after summer usually). That’s how it works by default unfortunately. I have already raised this issue with them and they are looking into it. But whether it will be changed I don’t know. If not, then you can safely order from the other retailers mentioned. They all sale the exact same pass, also with free cancellation if you cancel in time. Usually purchase for the next year is possible somewhere after summer. Since prices are already confirmed it might be sooner, but it can vary by retailer. If you’re not in a hurry you can wait a little like Anna suggested. There may be promotions later this year or next year too. But the current one is very good – those are rare.

The Terms and Conditions are very generic unfortunately, I understand the confusion. The promoted passes though can be cancelled for free. Via SBB you’d have to cancel 4 or more working days before the pass start date. It’s been confirmed to me as well.

I have 2 logistical questions about the STP. We depart for CH next week and I will purchase the STP a day before. When I purchase on the SBB app, will it then recognize that I have the STP when I write in town to town so then I will know if I have to pay something more and how much to pay? For example, when going from Brig to Männlichen via Wengen which I believe is not all free, when I plug those towns into the SBB app will it tell me what/if I owe and then I can pay it on the app?
2nd question: Because I’ll be in Switzerland for 3 weeks, after the 15 day STP is up I plan get the flex pass for the second leg of the trip (but of course I’ll buy it in July for the discount). Will I need to get the flex pass validated at the train station on the start date?

No, you can’t enter your Swiss Travel Pass in the SBB app. As a rule of thumb, you won’t have to pay anything for all regular trains, bus and boat trips. You do have to pay for mountain trips as indicated at http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity, and you can get simply get such tickets at the cable car stations before boarding. Show your pass to receive the discount. It’s explained at http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/howtouse under “Tickets”.
A Swiss Travel Pass Flex delivered by e-mail doesn’t need any validation or activation. All you need to do is select your travel days online in order to receive day tickets. This process is explained at http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpassflex/howtouse. You do need to select a start date for your Swiss Travel Pass Flex when ordering it. This day indicates the start of the month in which you can use your free travel days, but it doesn’t have to be your first free travel day.

I can’t seem to purchase the STP tickets for tomorrow. The first website listed at the start of this forum doesn’t allow me to start tomorrow (when we’re arriving) and even if I choose to start in 4 days it says the date is too soon and the order can’t be added to the basket. And the payments instructions for the happyrail site is in German and even with a translator it’s taking me to a bank site ING that I am not a member of. Any ideas?
Never mind… I copied the url into Chrome to allow for it to be translated to English and then was able to find other payment options.

Please click this link, that’s the one I tried too. I can select tomorrow, July 19, with no issues. Please see the attached screenshot. If this doesn’t work for you, the only reason I can think of is the date/time settings on your computer and/or browser.
Alternatively you can indeed order via HappyRail, that’s this link. You can pick your language and currency in the upper right corner. ING is listed first but there are other payment options too.
