Fantastic news! I now plan to choose this pass instead of the Half Fare Card. This discount makes STP the winner in my case. Thank you so much for sharing.

I had seen this, but wasn’t sure it was for the Swiss Travel pass for tourists. From what’s on the SBB travel center it appears that it is, yet I do not see mention of a discount posted, only the usual fare of 513chf for a 15 day 2nd class pass that has been the posted price for the past year. Is this because I’m looking before July 1? Is there a special discount code one must use? I am traveling there in August of this year. Thank you for your assistance.

    Arno,

Thanks for posting this very good news! We’re coming over in August and, for once, my procrastination on buying passes has paid off.

We’re looking forward to being in Switzerland again.

Will the discount apply if one purchases the pass in Switzerland?

Hi SteelyD. No, we’re not aware of that option. The promotion is offered by the websites mentioned above. It’s also safer to get your pass online, as you’ll have an electronic back-up in case of loss or theft of your printed paper pass (please refer to http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/wheretobuy).

A have 3 questions if you don’t mind:

    1. Does the STP cover the train to Konstanz Germany? I can’t tell from the coverage map.

    2. When going from Zermatt to Stresa with a STP will I need to purchase a ticket from Domodosola to Stresa? It looks like I can do that on the sbb app?

    3. Can I purchase the STPasses (a 15 day plus an 8 day) when I arrive in Zürich mid July and have a 10 hr layover before going on to Geneva (rather than purchasing from the USA and risking my flight being canceled at the last minute and losing the STP money for both passes)?

    Thanks!

To clarify in my last post on question 3, can I purchase the STPasses in Zurich from my phone?

    To Xpresso,

Yes, SBB will take you into Konstanz to at least one stop. You will have to switch trains, if I remember correctly for a 2 minute ride from the Swiss side to the German side to get on a German train. My one warning would be that the stops on the German side may be just that. Stops. Our point of disembarkment was Petershausenbahnhof (so I assumed it was a regular train station) and it was no more than a tram stop, finding directions from there was a fun adventure but the people, once we found them were so friendly and helpful.

    Hi Xpresso!

    1. Yes, as mentioned by Laurae traveling to Konstanz is for free with your Swiss Travel Pass. The red dot at Konstanz on the validity map means transportation to and in that town is included (http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity).

    2. Yes, you’d need a ticket from Domodossola to Stresa. There are several ways to purchase it: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy. I think the SBB app will work too, but you can check that in advance as it concerns an entirely Italian journey.

    3. That should work as long as you use one of the websites listed above and have your payment details at hand. Delivery by e-mail is normally quickly (max. 30 minutes via shop.switzerlandtravelcentre.com, usually less than 5 minutes though). If there’s a bit of delay in delivery, that might pose a problem in case you plan to use public transportation during your lay-over in Zurich. Note that the pass in this offer can be canceled even 1 day before its start date, so I think it’s pretty safe to get it in the US before departure. Let’s hope last-minute flight cancellation won’t occur by mid-July anymore :-)!

    Hi Arno,

Does this 25% discount apply to Swiss half fare pass? We plan to visit some mountains and I don’t think STP covers cogwheel and funicular trains. Is that correct?

    Thanks Arno.

    Hi Heart Voyage,

This promotion only applies to Swiss Travel Pass and Swiss Travel Pass Flex.

However, I would like to clarify that the STP provides up to 50% discounts on cable cars, cogwheel trains and funiculars. You can find more details here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity

    Good morning everyone,

It’s July 1, 8:15 AM CEST, and the promotion is already available through SBB travel centre at https://shop.switzerlandtravelcentre.com/#/en/home and Rail Europe at https://www.raileurope.com/destinations/passes/swiss-travel-pass (click the Search button to find the discounted prices). I’m sure HappyRail will follow soon. Note that cancellation for passes purchased from today is now possible up to 4 business days before the pass start date (it was 1 day). Read the fine print before you buy.

I see on the SBB site there’s an additional promotion involving the Swiss Coupon Pass. What are your thoughts on the Swiss Coupon Pass? Is it a good deal? Does everyone in a family need one to make it worthwhile? Thank you!

    Hi Arno,

Would you please tell me how STP works? If I buy 3-day pass, does it start from 12:01am the day I use it, or from the 1st time I use the STP.

And which website to buy the STP with 25% discount that has the most friendly-user App and also we can buy more ticket types (bus, rail, cogwheel train, funicular) if this exists.

    Thank you so much,

    Thy

    Hi Xpresso,

That’s right, we have announced that promotion here: http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/free-swiss-coupon-pass-with-your-swiss-travel-pass. They call it “Jungfraujoch promotion” because you will get a free Swiss Coupon Pass if you buy Jungfraujoch tickets along with your Swiss Travel Pass. If you plan to go to Jungfraujoch anyway then it is certainly worth it because it’s free and may get you extra savings. It depends on how you will use the Swiss Coupon Pass. It’s a lot of 2 for 1 offers.

See my link to have a look at the Swiss Coupon Pass and what’s included. Further details are at https://www.myswissalps.com/blog/swiss-coupon-pass/

    Hi Heart Voyage,

The pass is valid for entire days and until 5:00 AM after the last day. Please find it explained at our Swiss Travel Pass page: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/howtouse.

There is no app needed. You will receive a PDF document that you can print and store on your phone or tablet in any way you prefer (also see my first link).

All 3 websites mentioned in my first post are perfectly fine. SBB at https://shop.switzerlandtravelcentre.com/#/en/home is simple to use I think. But HappyRail often is slightly cheaper and offers almost any point to point ticket you can think of: https://www.happyrail.com/en/pass/europe/switzerland/swiss-travel-pass-consecutive.
