1) Passholder fare is a cheaper ticket because you only pay for the portion of the trip that is not covered by your pass. In practise it means that you need to be able to select “Swiss Travel Pass” on the website you buy your ticket from, so it can offer you the cheaper ticket. This option is often not available. The easier way is to simply buy a ticket for the portion that is not covered, which is Basel to Paris in your case.
