Swiss Travel Pass – Geneva to Grindelwald only

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Deniece is seeking advice on which Swiss travel pass to choose for her trip from Geneva Airport to Grindelwald, where she'll stay for 2 nights before returning to Geneva. She needs clarity on the best ticket option for her itinerary and any scenic travel suggestions.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider purchasing a Swiss Travel Pass if you plan to use various forms of transport in Grindelwald, but evaluate if a Swiss Transfer Ticket might be more economical for direct travel between Geneva and Grindelwald.
  • If you take the scenic Golden Pass route on your return, all tickets for that journey are covered by the Swiss Travel Pass.
  • Make reservations for trains between Zweisimmen and Montreux during peak times to ensure seating.
  • Purchase your Swiss Travel Pass online for convenient print-at-home delivery to make train travel easier.

Hello Deniece and Welcome to the MySwisAlps Forum,

A Swiss Travel Pass is going to be of marginal value for that sort of trip depending on whether you plan any sort of transport on your day in Grindelwald. Full fare return 2nd class tickets would cost you around CHF180. A 3-day Pass is CHF216.

If you have time go one way via Bern and return via scenic Golden Pass route via Zweisimmen and Montreux. http://www.myswissalps.com/go ldenpass

You can check timetables here http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

If you are arriving and departing Switzerland at Geneva then a Swiss Transfer Ticket at CHF146 may be most economic for you but you are then obliged to travel both ways via the fastest route (ie via Bern). See http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstransferticket

Brilliant, thank you so much.. so if I take the Golden pass route on my return is that all included in the cost of a Swiss travel pass? Or do I need to buy a separate ticket for that? Sorry if that question is so obvious, I’ve really struggled to find the information I need. Thanks again

Correct. No further tickets are required if you have a Swiss Travel Pass. Reservations are recommended between Zweisimmen and Montreux during peak tourist periods. See http://www.mob.ch/en/reservat ion-procedure

If you have time purchase your STP on-line for print at home delivery so you can just hop on the train at Geneva. http://www.swissrailways.com/ en/node/66
