Hi – I am traveling to Switzerland 10/14 – 10/21. On the 17th or 18th I was planning on going paragliding and then taking the train up to schynige platte. It’s the last few days the train is still running but do you think the chances of the train being closed early are high? Can you think of any alternatives if we can’t go?

    thanks in advance!

Hi Alex, and welcome to MySwissAlps!

It’s extremely unlikely the Schynige Platte train service would close before its scheduled last day of operation of 20 October 2024. It would have to be a very extreme and unusual weather event for that to happen.

In the unlikely event that it did close early, an alternative would be the Brienzer Rothorn. However, in the event of weather extreme enough to close the Schynige Platte railway, there’s a good chance it would cause the Brienzer Rothorn railway to close as well.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about though!
