Täsch to Zermatt: buying tickets in Täsch ok?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip next year from Geneva to Täsch by car and is unsure whether it's better to pre-buy train tickets for the shuttle from Täsch to Zermatt or purchase them at the station. They're concerned about their arrival time in Täsch and want guidance on the ticket purchasing process.

Key takeaways:
  • You can buy regular tickets for Swiss trains without worrying about specific arrival times, as they are valid for any travel on the purchased date.
  • Tickets do not guarantee a seat but reservations are rarely needed on Swiss trains.
  • Täsch is set up for motorists, so just park and buy your shuttle ticket on site when you arrive, or you can book in advance online.

I couldn’t find the answer anywhere so here goes. We’re traveling next year from Geneve to Tasch by car. Can we/should we pre-buy the train tickets from Tasch to Zermatt OR is it better to buy them at the Tasch train station because we are unsure of our arrival time in Tasch?

    Hi Blondee,

Regular tickets on Swiss trains are good for travel at any time on the date you bought it for. Super saver tickets are different and explained here: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/discounts

If you would like to buy tickets ahead of time you can do so here: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets

Do note that a ticket does not guarantee you a seat – that is done by a reservation (extra cost) but that is extremely uncommon on Swiss trains. Read more here: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/reservations

Sorry Lucas, but your standard comment on long distance Swiss tickets could be confusing on this occasion and doesn’t address the question being asked. This question is only about the Zermatt shuttle

Täsch is completely geared up for motorists arriving by car, buying parking and a shuttle ticket and taking the (ridiculously) frequent shuttle train to Zermatt. There is absolutely nothing you need to do apart from just arrive at Täsch and follow the directions.

It is no different to arriving in a multi-storey car park in a big city and paying on site.

However – you can book it all online:
