Ticket, reservation GoldenPass Express: 10/11 Dec
A traveler is trying to buy tickets for the GoldenPass Express from Montreux to Interlaken Ost, looking for options on December 10 or 11. They’ve found that tickets and schedules are not available beyond December 8, leading to some confusion about booking. It's suggested to check back later as the schedule will be available around mid-October.
- Keep checking the official website for ticket availability after early October as schedules are updated then.
- If you have a Berner Oberland Pass, your journey from Saanen to Montreux will be discounted by 50%.
- Consider using the SBB Mobile App for purchasing tickets, especially if options are limited on the website.

I am trying to purchase tickets/reservations for the Goldenpass Express from Montreux to Interlaken Ost on Dec 10 or Dec 11 of 2023.
I have been checking the website for the last week and schedule is not open after Dec 8 2023.
I am missing something?
Thanks in advance.

Hi StevefromHou,
You are not doing anything wrong. The schedule for the period after the 9th of December is not available as yet. It won’t be available till around mid-October. Just keep tabs till then.
Kind regards,
Yolanda

UserInactive83524 postsReply 3 of 24 • 15 September 2023 at 5:16:51 #958227I came to post a very similar question as I am trying to buy 2 tickets and reserve 2 prestige seats for the goldenpass express train from Interlaken Ost to Montreux departing at 11:08a on Wednesday November 8th and I am unable to do so. The website states that you can purchase tickets up to 2 months in advance (and my date falls within that range) however online it appears the latest date you can currently purchase the tickets for is Sun November 5th. I just want to make sure that I am understanding everything since my dates are within the supposed window but unable to be purchased. Thanks!

Welcome to MySwissAlps.
That’s right, you can purchase your ticket for the Golden Pass up to 2 months in advance. However you can book your seats much earlier. I did a dummy booking and was unable to find a seat in the Prestige Class on Nov 8th. This probably means there are no more seats available in this class on Nov 8th. You might want to try booking seats in 1st class or 2nd class.

UserInactive83524 postsReply 5 of 24 • 15 September 2023 at 16:33:08 #958229Thank you for the quick reply. The more I looked into it I realized that the website was showing that there were no prestige, first, or second class tickets at all for the entire week of Mon Nov 6- Sun Nov 12 which seems odd given it’s not peak time or anything.
Reply 6 of 24 • 15 September 2023 at 20:26:47 #958230Hi Hannahlawthe,
Ah yes, it seems like the whole week of Nov 6 -12 is fully booked for all class types. It might or might not be technical glitch. I recommend to check the website again later.

Anna
UserInactive83524 postsReply 7 of 24 • 15 September 2023 at 20:29:57 #958231I downloaded the SBB Mobile App and on there it appears I have the option of purchasing the train ticket that I am looking for (specifically the Golden Pass Express train that leaves at 11:08 on Wed Nov 8th from Interlaken Ost and goes to Montreux arriving at 14:20). Through the SBB Mobile App I only have the option of purchasing a 1st or 2nd class ticket, and not Prestige. It also does not appear that I can make a seat reservation through the app at the time of ticket purchase.
Thank you for following along and your advice and assistance with this so far. Should I at least book the 1st class ticket for the specific route that I am looking for via the SBB app since that is an option?
Thanks again!
Hannah
Reply 8 of 24 • 15 September 2023 at 21:02:45 #958232Hi Hannah,
Yes, it’s possible to purchase the ticket in 1st class directly from the SBB Mobile App. Based on the screenshot you provided, it looks like you can get a Saver Day Pass much cheaper than a standard point-to-point ticket: https://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass/price. Might be a good idea to get the ticket first. If you wish to reserve seats, you can click on the link provided.

Apparently they are doing construction that entire week and are not running any lines at all. I really wish that information was posted somewhere online as it is quite important, but sadly it is not at this time.

I plan on taking the PE train on 10/6 so do I need to buy ticket now ? I have BO pass and I will only buy the section from Gstadd~~> montreux and planning on buy it right before heading to the train ! If the train will be full then I will have to buy it now ?
thanks !
by the way I still not able to go to forum to start a new question ! I click on the forum but it has a live agent and I didn’t know so I started the question but then they asked me to pay 💰? So I got out the live chat as it seems wrong
UserInactive83524 postsReply 12 of 24 • 20 September 2023 at 3:35:07 #958236I would buy a ticket now if you have that option. I’m quite disappointed that the Golden Pass train is not running at all the entire week we will be in Switzerland, although I understand it does not need to undergo periodic maintenance and of course it’s best to do that when it’s not peak time. I do wish they posted that the train would not be running for that week because I spent a lot of time and energy trying to figure that out. We are flying into Zurich and out of Geneva and have a day planned in Lucern and staying two nights at the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace in Montreux, but need to figure out what to do now since we can’t take the panoramic train from Lucern to Montreux. Have a great trip!
UserInactive83524 postsReply 13 of 24 • 20 September 2023 at 4:00:30 #958237Hi fionatravel,
That’s right with the Berner Oberland Pass, you will actually only need to purchase the section Saanen to Montreux, it will be discounted too by 50% with your Berner Oberland Pass.
Via the SBB timetable you can also view if a train journey is anticipated to be busy. If any of the little figures are ‘red’, this is an indication that the train will be busy.
If your plans are fixed, yes, it maybe a good idea to buy your ticket in advance and reserve seats if you are worried. (Though, generally on this route, reservations are not necessary unless you are traveling VIP or Prestige). If you need some ticket purchase options, take a look here:
We shall revert as to you why you are unable to open up a new thread.
Kind regards,
Yolanda
UserInactive83524 postsReply 14 of 24 • 20 September 2023 at 4:13:06 #958238Hi Hannahlawthe,
Sorry to hear your plans have gone a little askew with the GoldenPass Express plans.
If I am reading this correctly, you are wanting to travel the GoldenPass Express, the direct train from Lucerne to Montreux. The other panoramic trains that travel the GoldenPass route appear to be still in operation during week November 6th. It just means you will need to change in Zweisimmen. Between Zweisimmen and Montreux you can choose between GoldenPass Belle Époque and GoldenPass Panoramic trains. More information on the train types in the below link, scroll to ‘the train”.
Or of course, you will still be able to travel the route with the regular regional trains and make your way to Montreux. Just research via the SBB timetable.
Kind regards,
Yolanda

UserInactive83524 postsReply 16 of 24 • 20 September 2023 at 15:12:00 #958240Thank you Yolanda. I hope you are correct. My frustration lies in that all of the Golden Pass routes are still showing that they are running on the SBB mobile app. It is only when you go to the Golden Pass website to book a seat reservation that it says there are no trains at all for the entire week.
UserInactive83524 postsReply 17 of 24 • 20 September 2023 at 15:55:54 #958241Hello again Hannahlawthe,
Could you send a screenshot of what you are seeing on the SBB timetable? Are the train routes labeled “PE”? “PE” on the timetable indicates it will be a panoramic train.
I just did a quick search for November 6th for the route Lucerne-Montreux. There are regional trains running but no “PE” panoramic trains which is correct, per your earlier message from MOB advising that the GoldenPass Express won’t be running.
For the GoldenPass Belle Époque and GoldenPass Panoramic trains that I mentioned earlier, if you key in Zweisimmen to Montreux, you will see “PE” trains displayed which if you further click on your chosen journey, you’ll see the train type Belle Époque or Panoramic displayed.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Yolanda
UserInactive83524 postsReply 18 of 24 • 20 September 2023 at 17:45:34 #958242Yes I see all of the normally scheduled train routes as options to purchase tickets for on the panoramic Golden Express train for Wed Nov 18th between Lucern and Montreux on the SBB app. I already purchased a Saver Day Pass for that day. However, despite them being shown as available to book on SBB when you go to book a seat reservation (or ticket on the MOB website) they are not available which is why I contacted MOB. It seems very odd that that is not reflected with SBB though.
UserInactive83524 postsReply 19 of 24 • 20 September 2023 at 18:27:27 #958243Hi Hannahlawthe,
That’s interesting. I used the SBB timetable and the attached screenshot is what was displayed. No mention of any GoldenPass Express train running at all on the November 8th as per the app findings you shared.
Have you updated the app perhaps or maybe it needs reinstalling? It does seem odd, they have different information displayed.
Kind regards,
Yolanda
