We would like to catch an early ferry from Lucerne to Vitznau to visit Mt. Rigi in April. I am confused about the departure time of the first boat of the day. One site says 9:12 AM. Another says 8:12 AM. Another says 5:53 AM! And yet another site says every hour on the hour, starting at 9 AM. Does anyone know the correct time, and best source finding this information? Thank you.

That makes sense. They add an earlier time when it gets busier. Thank you!

Thank you for your help. One more question: On the timetable link, it says that the timetable shows which type of boat is used for each trip (modern ships or paddle boats). I have found the schedule showing a departure at 9:12 from Lucerne to Vitznau, and I do see the small boat icon. But for the life of me, I cannot seem to find the type of boat. Sorry if there is an obvious answer! 🙂

Debbie – if you talking about icon of purple boat then it indicate a steamer, which going on Sundays and public holidays. In other days on this route standard motor boat is using.

    Hi Debbie,

The meaning of the symbols on the timetable are described in notes at the bottom of the timetable (in German, English and French).

So, in the Spring Timetable (20 April-24 May 2024) the 9:12 boat has the following symbols:

    • A white boat on a pink background
    • A black #37 in a square
    • A black crossed knife and fork

The explanation of symbols at the bottom of the timetable explains things as follows:

    • A white boat on a pink background = During a restricted traffic period, it is usually operated by steamboat; at other times motor boat.
    • A black #37 in a square = Steam boat on Sundays and public holidays; at other times motor boat.
    • A black crossed knife and fork = Restaurant on board

    Hope this clarifies things!
