Hi NH Traveler,
When are you travelling? The cogwheel trains from Wilderswil to Schynige Platte operate from 26 May to 23 October 2022. You can use the SBB timetable to check train schedules.
At the top of Schynige Platte, you’ll have a sweeping view of the surrounding mountains and lakes. There is an alpine garden you can explore and various trails you can follow. You can also take a break at the restaurant and enjoy the Alphorn players’ performance at selected times during the day. I recommend spending at least an hour at the top. But this is entirely up to you. If you have a tight schedule and prefer a quick round trip, that is certainly possible.

Anna

Thank you. We will be there mid July. We will also have our carry on luggage and day pack. Is that allowed?

I agree with Anna, there is little point in going up the Schynige Platte Bahn (SPB) line if you don’t spend at least some time at the top. The SPB line runs to a very simple timetable, with trains at 05, 25 and 45 minutes past each hour between early morning and mid afternoon. However rather than Anna’s link to the SBB timetable, a quick glance at the official timetable PDF gives you an overview of the SPB timetable:

I don’t think there is any rule against having your full trip luggage on board the SPB trains. However, other travellers might be irritated by ‘heavier than day pack’ luggage and /or not enjoy being next to you in the train, because the trains are small as they either date from the early 20th century, or are replicas of same. Also the railway is a very narrow gauge, so the coaches are ‘compact’

Hi NH Traveler,
A day pack is definitely allowed on board. You could probably store your carry on luggage at the Wilderswil train station is there’s no extra space on the train.

Hi NH traveler,
It’s allowed, but it might be easier to store your bags in a locker at the Interlaken Ost railway station. That’s larger than the Wilderswil station and has more luggage facilities. You can read about lockers here: https://www.myswissalps.com/train/practical/luggage.

Thank you very much for all the information. Extremely helpful. I really appreciate the locker size/rate information and the cable scheduler.
