Tip for Lake Geneva boat cruise November 7

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a boat trip on Lake Geneva and has set aside November 7 for sightseeing in Geneva. They want suggestions for worthwhile routes and are looking for information on boat timetables, especially if they can search through the SBB for Geneva to Yvoire.

Key takeaways:
  • The round trip via Bellevue is a good option for a short cruise on November 7 since timetables are limited in low season.
  • For using the Swiss timetable, select the 'Advanced search' option to focus on boats only.
  • On November 8, the Lausanne to Evian and Lausanne to Thonon routes will be available, so you can plan your trip around these stops.
  • The Lausanne-Evian route operates year-round, unlike many others that have limited availability.

    Hi tencneo!

Which cruise is best depends on how much time you want to spend on it, and what your other plans after the boat trip are. Do you want to get back to Geneva after the boat ride for example? If so, the 1-hour round trip via Bellevue (mentioned at http://www.myswissalps.com/boatlakegeneva) would be a good option for you. The boat timetables are limited as November is low season, but the Bellevue round trip will be available during your stay.

Yes, you can use the general Swiss timetable to find boats. Use the “Advanced search” option to exclude other modes of transport. Based on your screenshot, you probably figured that out already. If not, please see “Further options: advanced timetable” at https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable for instructions.

Another option is to use the pdf timetables linked to under “Information on other websites” at https://www.myswissalps.com/boatlakegeneva/gettingthere. Here’s a direct link: http://www.cgn.ch/en/horaires-billets#navigation-id-3.

There are no Lake Geneva boats at the Geneva end of the lake on November 7 (Monday).

The very restricted winter service only operates on Sundays and public holidays

I give you this information with a heavy heart as my visits to the Geneva area may now become fewer, as the last surviving family relative in the Geneva area whom I have been visiting for 60 years died yesterday 🙁

Arno, see my note to tencneo, plus:

The only way to get on the lake at the Geneva end in winter is to use the ‘Mouettes’ shuttle/commuter boats:

I’m sorry for your loss 1960man. My condolences. I can imagine it’s sad you’ve lost your last relative in the Geneva area.

Indeed, November 7 is a Monday and the round trip I mentioned isn’t available that day. Tencneo, another option for you would be a guided tour. This one includes a short boat crossing and seems to be available for November 7: https://www.viator.com/tours/Geneva/Chocolate-Flavours-Tours.

    Hi tencneo!

Yes, Lausanne-Evian and Lausanne-Thonon should be available on November 8. You can study those timetables here: http://www.cgn.ch/en/horaires-billets#navigation-id-3. Or use the general Swiss timetable (https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable) and select boats only as I referred to in my answer above. Fill out “Lausanne-Ouchy (lac)”, “Thonon-les-Bains (F) (lac)” and “Evian-les-Bains (F) (lac)” for the boat docks.

Trips between Lausanne, Vevey, Montreux and the Chillon Castle (https://www.myswissalps.com/chilloncastle) are only available on Sundays and public holidays during your visit: http://www.cgn.ch/media/pdf/horaires/LNE-SG-Hiver-2022.pdf.

I hope you’ll find a trip that suits your plans!

Lausanne – Evian is different, as it is one of three CGN routes maintained year-round for commuters who live in France and work in Switzerland. It is one of the three of what the lake operator CGN calls ‘regular routes’ along with Lausanne – Thonon and Nyon – Yvoire. These run daily so would be operating on November 7 and 8: http://www.cgn.ch/en/cgn-mobilite#horaires

Nyon – Yvoire is closest to the Geneva end of the lake so it would be possible to do this from Geneva on November 7.

Another possible way you could do it would be to go Geneva – Nyon – Yvoire – Nyon – Lausanne as part of your ongoing journey

I strongly suspect that the ‘chocolate’ tour boat ride would be on a small Mouette type boat so would be no better than using the Mouettes I already mentioned
