Jungfraujoch with Jungfrau Travel Pass: tickets, routes, reservations

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip to Jungfraujoch and has the Jungfrau Travel Pass. They want to know if two hours is enough time there and how to handle seat reservations for the train, especially if they're running late. They appreciate the help from the forum in planning their trip to Switzerland.

Key takeaways:
  • Two hours at Jungfraujoch is usually sufficient to enjoy the views.
  • You need to purchase seat reservations for trips to Jungfraujoch only between May and August; it's optional at other times.
  • If you miss your reserved train, you can join the unreserved line to catch a later train.
  • With a Jungfrau Travel Pass, you can get off at Eigergletscher and board the next train to Kleine Scheidegg without additional fees.

First of all, a big “Thank You” for this website and answering all of our questions and all the information that is available on this site.  What a help you have been!!  Our last question.  We plan on visiting TOE and we have the Jungfrau Travel Pass.  I know I need to purchase the last part of the trip.  Is two hours sufficient and if we buy the two hour window tickets and we’re late getting back to the train, do we go into a unreserved line to depart from the TOE?  Read something about reserved and unreserved lines.  Don’t want to spend the day there.  Also, when we arrive back to Eigergletscher can we get off the train and head back on the next train to Kleine Scheidegg with our JTP?  Started planning ten months ago and now our departure for Switzerland is upon us.  I’m so thankful for this website, moderators and information.  YOU helped our trip planning so much!!!!!

    Hi Kami,

Thank you for your kind words.

You can stay at the top of Jungfraujoch as long as you like. Personally I think 2 hours is more than enough. If you purchase seat reservations for the return trip, please note that the reservation is specific to your selected connection. Seat reservation is mandatory if you are travelling to Jungfraujoch between the busy months of May and August. You can find further details here: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/jungfraujoch/

Information on the Jungfrau Travel Pass is available on this page: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/jungfrau-travel-pass/

    Hello Anna,

Thank you for your response.  We’ll be in Wengen the week of Sept. 7-13, 2025 so will we need seat reservations for this time period?  If I need to purchase them no problem.  Just wasn’t sure if we needed them.  Time frame of two hours is good for us.  Again, Thank you for your help and we love this website….so much great information.  Have a wonderful day/evening!!!

    Hi Kami,

No, there will be no obligatory requirement to purchase a seat requirement for your dates.  This only applied between the dates of 1st May till the end of August.

You can still purchase seat reservations if you wanted to have a guaranteed time slot but it’s not compulsory.

All details regarding a visit to Jungfraujoch can be found in the link Anna provided.

    Kind regards,
    Yolanda

Aloha again from Bitsy.  I too am hoping to visit Jungfraujoch in mid September.  Can a person decide to make a return seat reservation from their mobile device while on top of mountain or do these reservations usually sell out?  Thank you

    Hi Bitsy,

Seat reservation for excursion to Jungfraujoch is mandatory between May and August. The rest of the year it is optional but recommended. You can book the seats online via the official Jungfrau Railway website. I think slots are available on first come first serve basis.

    Regards,
    Anna
