Hi everyone,

Has anyone taking the morning train the EC 198 from Munich to Zurich airport 06:48 -> 10:17 AM

I want to know the reliability of this train and what is the delay if any!

The other options is the morning flixbus and I do not know which is more reliable! I know swiss trains are on time but this one originates from Germany.

What day are you travelling?

I am GUESSING tomorrow April 6th, or perhaps April 7th.  I guess those days because of your other thread regarding Zurich hiking.

Very briefly, Munich to Zurich trains are notorious for bad punctuality.  I have in front of me a four-page article in the December 2025 issue of Schweizer Eisenbahn-Revue entitled

‘EC München-Zürich: Seit Jahren instabiler Betrieb.’

(EC Munich-Zurich: For years erratic service)

The article makes for disturbing reading.  A graph on the second page shows the poor punctuality of trains heading towards Zurich.  The early train from Munich (06 53 on the current timetable) has a particularly poor record.

I have just had a quick look at the Flixbus website.  There are no early morning departures from Munich to Zurich Airport. There ARE buses Munich to Zurich city centre, and they do have seats available.  The fare is likely to be cheaper, but remember that we are in the middle of the busy Easter holiday, so a bus may well be delayed by traffic congestion.

I am not sure how reliable the intercity train service from Munich to Zurich is. From what I gather, there is typically a delay of 15-20 mins due to infrastructure issues on the German side. So if you are travelling on this route, please allow some extra time for your journey.
