How do I make a seat reservation with the Swiss Travel Pass?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named CLJ is planning a trip from Montreux to Geneva and needs to know if they can reserve seats on the train using the Swiss Travel Pass. They have a specific time to reach Geneva and are looking for advice on how to secure their seats without purchasing separate tickets.

Key takeaways:
  • You don't need seat reservations on regular Swiss trains, as they have frequent services.
  • If you still want to reserve seats, you can purchase them separately, independent of your Swiss Travel Pass.
  • Make sure to catch a train that arrives in Geneva with enough time to spare before your specific schedule.

Is there any way to reserve seats on a train if you have a Swiss travel pass. We will be traveling from Montreux to Geneva and need to be there by a certain time. I’m wondering how to reserve seats at a specific time without purchasing tickets.

    Hello CLJ

There are four trains per HOUR between Montreux, and Geneva. (Two  per hour go on to the airport.)  Provided your STP is valid on the day you are travelling, just make sure you catch a train due in Geneva a safe margin before your ‘certain time’.

Seat reservations are generally not even possible on ordinary ‘workaday’ Swiss trains like those which run between Montreux, Vevey, Lausanne and Geneva.

    Kind regards

    Roger

    Hi CLJ,

Generally speaking, you don’t actually need a seat reservations on Swiss trains unless they are one of the panoramic trains.  Of course you can still make/purchase a seat reservation. Seat reservations are purchased independently from your ticket or rail pass.

All details in our seat reservation guide in the link below.  Listed too, are where you can buy a seat reservation:

    Kind regards,
    Yolanda
