How does a ‘stop on demand’ work at Swiss trains and stations?

Short summary – read this first

Kamil is planning a trip involving RhB trains and needs advice on how to get off at stations labeled 'Stop on demand'. He asks if he can simply wave to the driver and how to signal his stop from inside the train.

Key takeaways:
  • Press the stop button inside the train next to the door if you want to get off at a 'Stop on demand' station.
  • To board the train at these stations, press the button on the platform to signal the train.

OK – today I need an advice 😉 Question about RhB trains – how to stop train at station signed in timetable as “Stop on demand”? Wave hand towards train driver will be enough? And what about situation when I want go out the train at this kind of station – there is a special button inside the train or I should tell to train’s conductor?

    Hi Kamil,

Train with ‘stop on demand’ service requires you to press the stop button if you want to get off at a specific station. You can find this button next to the door.

At train stations that have this service, there is also a button on the platform that you can press to signal to the train that you would like to board the train: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/train/how-it-works/.
