Train Zurich Airport-Bern with Saver Day Pass

Short summary – read this first

Tony Moulton is planning to travel from Zurich Airport to Bern on September 15th using a Saver Day train ticket. He wants to know if he needs to transfer trains at the main Zurich station and if there's any extra fare for the journey from the airport station to the main station. Fortunately, he can travel directly to Bern without changing trains, and his ticket covers the trip from the airport.

Key takeaways:
  • You can take a direct train from Zurich Airport to Bern without changing at the main station.
  • The Saver Day Pass includes travel from the Zurich Airport to the main Zurich station, so no extra fare is needed.

I have a Saver Day train ticket to travel from the Zurich airport train station to Berne on Sept. 15, 2022, and have two questions: 1) When the train arrives at the main Zurich train station from the airport, will I then need to transfer to another train for the trip from the main Zurich station to Berne? 2) Will I need to pay an extra fare for the travel between the Zurich airport train station and the main Zurich grain station or is that included in the ticket I already have purchased?

    Thanks, Tony Moulton

Zurich Flughafen (airport) railway station is a through station on the SBB network and thus an integral part of the Swiss national railway network (like Gatwick airport and Birmingham International in UK) served by intercity, inter regio and local trains. There are two trains per hour direct from the airport to Bern. You will not have to change at Zurich HB (= Hauptbahnhof = main station)

The Saver day pass is valid on all main line trains in Switzerland and all urban, suburban and rural local railways, trams and buses plus lake boats etc.

    Hi Tony,

If you have a Saver Day Pass you can travel for free during that day, see the validity area here: http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass/validity.

So yes, you can travel for free from the Zurich Airport to Bern via Zurich with your Saver Day Pass.
