    Hello Marie

27th September is a Saturday.   That means there will be a relatively good service on the Brig-Domodossola-Milan Simplon railway.

I have just gone to the Swiss Electronic Timetable http://www.sbb.ch and keyed in an imaginary journey from Grindelwald to Florence SMN (Firenze Santa Maria Novella) on that morning.

It is telling me that the fastest departures from Grindelwald are at 06 47, 07 47, 10 47 and 12 47.  All take six hours and seventeen minutes to get to Florence/Firenze.

All departures will involve changes at Interlaken Ost, Spiez and Milan Centrale.  The 07 47 departure involves an additional change at Domodossola.

    No reservation needed Grindelwald-Interlaken-Spiez.

On the Eurocity trains between Spiez, Domodissola and Milano, reservation is compulsory.

Milano to Florence (Firenze in Italian) is an Italian Frecciarossa high speed train on which reservation is compulsory.

First class is USUALLY 50-60 per cent more expensive than second.

I THINK that if you follow Yolanda’s advice in a previous thread and invest in Half Fare Cards, the HFCs will give you a 50% discount on the Grindelwald to Domodossola section of this journey.

    Kind regards

    Roger
