    Hi everybody,

On my upcoming tour to Switzerland I will stay in Zurich for a couple of days and intend to have a day trip to the Rhine falls. Later I’m thinking about a visir to a town nearby and I can’t decide which is favorable: Schaffhausen or Stein am Rhein?

I know that Stein am Rhein is a little further from the falls than Schaffhausen, but if it’s more beautiful or interesting it it will be worth visiting.

    Thank you

    Hi Shaber1923,

You can do both actually. To get to Stein am Rhein from the Rhinefalls, you will need to switch train in Schaffhausen anyway. So you could make a quick stop and explore the town little bit before heading to Stein am Rhein. The journey by train from the Rhinefalls to Schaffhausen is less than 10 minutes. From Schaffhausen to Stein am Rhein by train takes about 20 mins. You can check train schedules on the SBB timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

    Thanks Anna,

If time permits, I’ll consider doing both.

I asked about preference between both in case of a late exit from Zurich and/or a longer stay than planned in the Rhinefalls/

    Best regards,

    Shaul

    Hi Shaul,

If you have a tight schedule and can only do one, my vote would go to Stein am Rhein.

    Anna

    Hi Shaber1923,

If you are interested in a fortress (Munot) and monasteries (Zu Allerheiligen) as well as a beautiful city, then I would visit Schaffhausen.

    Have a great trip
