Unable to use Bernina Express ticket January 2022

Short summary – read this first

Steve from Houston planned a trip to Switzerland in January but had to cancel his flight and hotel reservations. He had purchased a non-refundable ticket for the Bernina Express through the DB website and is unsure if he can transfer it to someone else. He hopes someone who can read German can assist him with the ticket details.

Key takeaways:
  • Contact the DB website directly to inquire about the refund process for your ticket.
  • If you need to cancel a Supersaver ticket due to illness or travel restrictions, you may be able to request a refund.
  • Consider offering the ticket to someone local or in your traveling community who may be able to use it.

    Hello MySwissAlps,

I was planning a trip to Switzerland in January 2022 and ended up purchasing a single ticket for the Bernina Express. I am unable to take the trip and have had to cancel my flight and hotels.

I purchased the ticket thru the DB website and I think it is a super saver?

I seem to remember that when I purchased it there was no refund, but not sure if I can give to someone else to use.

They mailed me the physical ticket and it is all in German (I can’t read German).

I would like to offer it to anyone that can use it.

    Steve from Houston

    Hi Steve,

I’m sorry you had to cancel your trip to Switzerland.

The Supersaver ticket is not refundable if you miss your train connection. However, you could possibly request for a refund if you have to cancel the Supersaver ticket due to illness or travel restriction. You can find information about this on the SBB website here: http://www.sbb.ch/en/help-and-contact/refunds-compensation/ticket-refunds.html#anchor6

Since you purchased the ticket from the DB website, you should contact them and enquire about the refund process.

    Best regards,

    Anna

I don’t know if you found the web page below? You said you had booked via DB so I went to Bahn.de and hunted around for any information in German (usually the best bet is to start with the ‘home language’.

I have found a page that may include the variant of web site that you used for your purchase. Once found I clicked to change the page to the English version for you:

Exchanging or cancelling DB tickets or reservations: http://www.bahn.com/en/booking-information/exchanges-refunds
