    Hi A bainbridge,

    Very welcome to MySwissAlps.

Thanks for sharing your plans for next May.

Switzerland wise, a popular scenic rail journey would be taking a ride on the Bernina Express route. All information in the below link. You’d be boarding this route in reverse and when arriving in Chur, there are regular trains to Zurich.

So with the Bernina Express option, this would entail: Venice-Milan-Tirano, perhaps stay overnight in Tirano or Milan? The next day, either board the Bernina Express bus to Lugano from Tirano (or make your way to Tirano from Milan). In Lugano you can board the Bernina Express train to take you to Chur, thereon to Zurich.

Another option. From Lugano there is also the Gotthard Panorama Express as an alternative to the Bernina Express. You can read all about this route here:

This route ends in Lucerne and similarly there are regular trains to Zurich. Do use the SBB timetable to research travel times: https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

Here’s also our handy link for train tickets to/from Italy to Switzerland.

Whilst in Switzerland, I am unsure how long you will be in Switzerland but you may want to consider a rail pass if here for several days or there is the Saver Day Pass if only here for the day. More details below:

I hope this gets you started. Feel free to reach out with any additional questions.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

Thank you for the information, links and options. We haven’t finalized plans. Switzerland has more than its fair share of natural beauty to see.
