Hi, and welcome to the site. In early November, you’ll find things very slow in places like Lauterbrunnen since most hotels and shops are closed due to the change from fall to skiing seasons. Grindelwald is a larger town and shouldn’t be affected as much. You might focus on that if you are looking for a base. The trains will be running but others might add to the conversation regarding which cable cars are operational then.

    Hi Veena,

Our mountain pages and the timetable allow you to check if cable cars are operational:

There are usually no alternative modes of transport.

    Hi Pvonk

    Thanks for your reply.

Can you suggest places to visit from Grindelwald?

I have read that the cable car from Lauterbrunnen to Grusthalp is not available as from 10 NOV. Iwould like to know if there are trains going directly to Murren.

If you haven’t got it yet, download the SBB Mobile app to your cell phone. Use it as a handy reference to find train/boat/etc schedules between two locations. This is how you can tell what’s available, if anything.

The app indicates Lauterbrunnen to Grutschalp not operating from Oct 21 to Nov 8.

    Hi Veena,

There are no direct trains from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren. You can get there either by cable car to Grütschalp and train via Winteregg, or by bus to Stechelberg and cable car via Gimmelwald. One of those options is always available, even if there’s maintenance work going on on the other route.

    Hello Veena,

I assume you are talking about the Lucerne – Interlaken part of the Golden Pass trains, right?! If so, then NO reservation is needed for this journey if you hold the Swiss Travel Pass, you can simply board any train and present your pass when asked to do so.

As you will see in the “tickets” tab of above link, reservations ARE recommended for the Zweisimmen – Montreux part of the journey, if this is the part you’re referring to.

See details about the Swiss Travel Pass, incl. validity (check out the map), price, etc. in the according tabs of this link:

    Best,
    Steph
