They are rerouting you because of construction on tracks Clear down to Sargans before heading back toward Lucern. is there a way to find approximate return to service?

What is your advice for July 11 as I was ready for a direct run from Stein am Rhine to Interlaken West because of this. I was going to take the S1 train along the lakes and border of Germany to St Gallen and then the Voralpen to Luzern to Interlaken.   Can you tell me where the IC 81 originates and where to catch it to Interlaken from around Rhine Falls?

Hi DelrayDancer,

The IC 81 runs from Romanshorn to Interlaken Ost (via Interlaken West).

If you want to travel from Stein am Rhein to Interlaken West using the IC 81, use the Settings feature of the Swiss timetable (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/public-transport/timetable/) to put via Romanshorn into your journey plan.

Departures from Stein am Rhein at 8:43 and at 2-hourly intervals until 14:33 will connect with the IC 81 at Romanshorn.

Hi DelrayDancer,

It looks like there will be a service disruption on the Voralpen Express on the date you are travelling. Not sure how long the disruption will impact on the train service but it’s a good idea to make alternative plans.  You can find further details about the Voralpen Express here: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/voralpen-express/.

It’s still possible to take the S1 from Stein am Rhein to St Gallen. To get to Interlaken from St Gallen, the fastest way would be to go via Zurich HB – a 3-hour journey.
