Hi, i am a new user here and little confuse about the rails in Switzerland. My friends and I would want to go up to Gornergrat to catch the sunrise. But we are unsure if we need to book the tickets for the train online ? Or can we purchase at the station on that day without having to worry about a full train ? Also, I am a little confuse on when and which trains are the ones that need prior reservations. Thanks for your help and reply :))

Only a few special trains need reservations, all other trains in Switzerland are ‘walk on’.

Gornergrat doesn’t require advanced reservation. It has a queuing system at Zermatt GGB station but trains are never completely full as they hold plenty of people. Early morning trains are normally pretty empty.

Normally, you have the options of buying the tickets at the rail station or online in advance, depending on what is more comfortable for you.
