Anjan is planning a trip from Blevio to Brig by car on October 18 and wants to spend two days in a Swiss village along the way. They are looking for suggestions for villages other than Bellinzona to stay in. Anna provides route advice and recommended villages.
Key takeaways:
Consider staying in Airolo or Andermatt for a peaceful experience during your two-day stop.
Check the road status for mountain passes like the Gotthard Pass before traveling in mid-October.
If you're short on time, using the Gotthard Tunnel can be a faster option.
Stick to the motorways for easier travel, especially in autumn when some passes may be closed.

Hi Anjan,
Welcome to MySwissAlps.
When are you planning to travel? If you prefer a scenic route over mountain passes, I suggest going via Furka Pass to Andermatt, continue to Lugano then Lake Como. Since you have 2 days, consider breaking the journey somewhere between Andermatt and Lugano. Maybe Bellinzona? https://www.myswissalps.com/town/bellinzona/

Hi Anjan,
Driving from Blevio to Brig in October – many of the mountain passes are not accessible all year round, so I suggest just stick to the motorways.
My recommended route would be: Blevio → Como → Lugano → Bellinzona → Airolo → Andermatt → Brig.
From Blevio to Lugano, follow the lakeside road across the border into Switzerland then continue on the motorway to Bellinzona and Airolo. Between Airolo and Andermatt, you can either take the Gotthard Tunnel (faster) or the Gotthard Pass (longer but scenic, however please check road status as the pass is usually restricted in mid October). https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/car/traffic-info/
From Andermatt to Brig, you can go via the Furka Pass (if open) or take the car train (available all year).
There are plenty of small villages perfect for overnight stay along the route. Airolo is halfway so could be a nice option is you like peace and quiet. I can also recommend Andermatt.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Anna
