Where to check regular Swiss train ticket prices?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Djerardca is trying to compare point-to-point train tickets with a rail pass for an upcoming trip in Switzerland. They are looking for accurate pricing options and information about the Swiss Travel Pass to make the best decision. They want to know where to find correct ticket prices without the need for discounts that can be misleading.

Key takeaways:
  • Use the SBB timetable to check for accurate ticket prices, and remember that the prices shown are typically half-price by default.
  • If you're traveling more than just a short distance in a day, consider getting the Swiss Travel Pass, as it often offers better value.
  • When using the SBB site, log in as a guest to view regular prices by selecting no discount or by choosing a return trip for comparison.

I am trying to compare point to point tickets compared to getting a rail pass but I’m having a hard time finding an accurate price on a point to point ticket. Where is the best place to look? I have been using SBB but I read that you have to double the price because it shows a discounted price. Is there somewhere to find an accurate price to compare?

You are already doing what you need to do, ie find the Swiss half price fare and double it.

The basic rule about Swiss train fares is that if you are doing more than just a short A – B journey on a single day as part of a holiday, then a Pass will be better value. For example Zurich – Zermatt is CHF 129 per person full fare. The 4 days Swiss Travel Pass is CHF 281 per person, so if you travel around for 4 days making anything other than short local trips the Pass will be better value than ordinary tickets.

    Hi Djerardca

Welcome to the forum and thanks for joining MySwissAlps.

The SBB timetable is the best place to check for ticket prices. But yes, the prices are half-price by default . To show the regular prices you can log in as a guest and select no discount or no railpass, or you can simply choose a return trip to show the regular price of a single trip.

Also, be sure to check out the following link. It’s a step-by-step guide to compare railpasses and includes a spreadsheet that you can download and use to calculate different railpasses for your trip: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass

Hope this helps you in your trip planning. Do reach out if you have further questions.

    Regards,

    Hi Djerardca!

I suggest you check this page, that contains the timetable mentioned by Anna: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable. The paragraph “How to find ticket prices (advanced timetable)” will be helpful I think.
