Has anyone had any experience the the wifi hotspot called “Traveler’s Wifi”. It seems that you can pick up and return the device in Zurich airport. They also claim on their website that it’s unlimited data without any throttling of data speeds. My wife and 17 year old son are all planning on traveling this summer from the USA to Switzerland for 11 days and thought a hotspot might be a more economical idea compared to purchasing SIM cards or European phones and paying for data. If anyone has any suggestions about any other data solutions, it would be appreciated.

    Hi keepfaith,

I’ve used TravelersWifi and it was excellent. The speed was better than the accommodation Wifi, and indeed no data limit. Details can be found here: http://www.myswissalps.com/si mcard.

    Have you seen http://www.myswissalps.com/si mcard?

Travelers WiFi is ideal for multiple users and is probably the Gold standard.

I had good experience using the more economical Salt Pre-paid SIM in a mobile phone and operating as a hotspot to support two iPads. See shop.salt.ch/en/plans/ prepay/ and cancel the popup that hides the actual offer.

Having a data connection enables access to the extremely handy SBB Mobile App for timetables and ticket purchases. You can even record your trip using this newly released app.

Rockoyster and Arno – on this page: http://www.myswissalps.com/si mcard it states: “The hotspot only works in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, not in other countries;” but on their website (http://www.travelerswifi.com) it looks like it can be used all over Europe. Any experience with this? Maybe this is something new?

    Thanks!

There are Swiss(including Lichtenstein), Europe and Global variants. I guess they have differing price structures.

Yes, it is new that you can now get one that can be used outside Switzerland.

When my son got one for our trip in December 2016, it was only available for use within Switzerland.

    Hi keepfaith,

I used and returned it yesterday. It’s very good. Speed is excellent and unlimited data.

Battery lasts for 4 to 5 hours. So you might need an powerbank for a day long usage.

You can collect and return at Zurich airport.

We considered a hotspot wi fi set up but chose a 10 Euro SALT SIM card instead. Worked faultlessly without ads and gave us a good signal throughout.
