Winter clothing suggestions for a Swiss trip in January

Short summary – read this first

Ashleycherie is excited about her second trip to Switzerland at the end of January, seeking advice on clothing for winter hiking and sledding. Coming from warm Louisiana, she wants to ensure she's properly dressed to stay warm without overheating during activities. Any tips on specific clothing brands would be much appreciated.

Key takeaways:
  • Look for popular winter clothing brands like North Face, Patagonia, and Helly Hansen for quality gear.
  • Layering is essential to adjust to changing temperatures while hiking.
  • Choose moisture-wicking socks to keep your feet dry and warm during outdoor activities.

Hi, we will be making our 2nd trip to Switzerland at the end of January. Our first trip was in May of 2022 and we fell in love and wanted to come back for winter.  We are from south Louisiana in US so not our typical weather conditions.  We don’t ski but will do some hikes and possibly sledding.  Would love any good recommendations on clothing, pants and layering brands for hiking, best type of socks.  Any advice would be great! We want to be prepared and not be miserably cold or having too much on as we warm up with activity.  Thanks in advance!!

There are so many brands but popular ones here are North Face, Peak Performance, Patagonia, Helly Hansen, Saloman (in no preference of order).
