Wrong DOB while registering for Swiss Travel Pass

Short summary – read this first

Mik4uu accidentally booked a Swiss Travel Pass with his birth date instead of his wife's and is worried about possible issues during their trip to Switzerland. He confirmed that all other details are correct, but RailEurope hasn't been helpful in resolving the issue. The advice he received suggests that the incorrect birth date may not cause any problems.

Key takeaways:
  • The birth date on the Swiss Travel Pass is mainly used for discounts, so it shouldn't be a problem if you paid full price for the pass.
  • If everything else on the pass is correct, most train staff won't likely raise issues about the wrong birth date.
  • Contacting customer service early can help, but be aware that sometimes they may not change details after booking.

    Hi,

By mistake while purchasing the Swiss travel pass for my wife, it got booked with my birth-date instead of my wife’s as google automatically picked it the birth-date and I didn’t notice.

Only after getting confirmation copy I noticed that its wrong.

The other details like Passport no. And name etc. are ok.

Will this be a problem travelling in Switzerland?

I also noticed the birth date actually is not printed on the pass. But was still not sure.

I paid in full for 4 days Swiss pass i.e (No youth discount)

I contacted SBB for this but as the Pass was purchased from RailEurope they said they wont be bale to help, and RailEurope is not responding to mails.queries.

    Any suggestions please.

    Thanks in advance.

Hello Mik4uu and Welcome to MySwissAlps

I think the date of birth is used primarily to determine eligibility for discounted (eg Youth) pass or for children taking advantage of Swiss Family Card free travel. I don’t see it as being a problem for you as you have a full price adult pass.

    Hi Mik4uu,

Officially, the birth date on the pass should match the date in your passport. I agree with Rockoyster though; in reality it should not be a problem. Rail Europe should be able to confirm that. When did you e-mail them? Which of their websites did you order from? What’s your order number?

Thanks Rockoyster and Arno for your responses.

Arno – I did got a reply from RailEurope yesterday, they are saying they wont be able to change date now. I ordered from RailEurope India. They have suggested the option to cancel and rebook with 85% refund and also the pass I initially booked was promotional (4+1 day) but this one they are saying wont be. So realistically it would be a loss of more than 80 CHF. What would be your suggestion?

You need booking no. from RailEurope or Booking no. printed on pass? Please let me know.

Thanks again for taking out time and answering my queries.

    Regards,

    Mohit Kumar

    Hi Mohit Kumar,

Officially the pass is not valid because of the incorrect birth date. But personally I’d take the risk I guess. I do not think train staff will make a big deal out of this since everything else is correct. Loosing 15% plus a travel day would be a shame. In the end it’s your decision of course.

I don’t need more information from you, that was just in case Rail Europe wouldn’t reply.

    Hi Arno,

Thanks again. Appreciate that. I also got in touch with one of the conductors, he is saying since name and Passport no. are ok, it’s cool in my case.

Also wanted to say, I love this website and forum.

    Thanks
