Zurich Airport – Grindelwald – Venice by train
A traveler named cherryberry is planning a day trip to Grindelwald on April 6th, arriving at the airport at 0655, before heading to Venice the next day. They seek advice on whether to book train tickets online in advance, what 'transfer' means during travel, and if train travel is the cheapest option.
- Book your train tickets online ahead of time, especially for Italian trains that require reservations.
- The Swiss Transfer Ticket is useful as it allows free transfers from Swiss airports to towns and can also help cover some of your travel needs, but it only gets you to the Swiss border.
- You’ll need to buy a separate ticket for the Italian leg of your trip from the Swiss border to Venice.

Hello there!
We will be visiting Grindelwald for a day trip on April 6th (expected time of arrival in the airport is at 0655), then we will be heading out to Venice on the next day.
Regarding the train tickets and transfers, there some few questions that I want to ask from you guys, is it necessary and better for us to book a ticket online ahead of time? And does ‘transfer’ during train travel means literally transferring between one train to another? Is travelling by train the cheapest way to get to our destinations?
Thank you in advance. 🙂
