Zurich to Milan on EC train – how long is the journey?
A traveler named swissnoob is planning a train trip from Milan to Zurich and noticed a difference in train durations. While they found information suggesting a 3hrs 20mins journey, they only see durations of around 4hrs 17mins online. They're looking for clarity on this discrepancy and if there are any booking issues.
- The Gotthard-Basistunnel is currently undergoing repairs, causing some trains to take a longer, scenic route, adding about an hour to travel time.
- It's expected that regular train schedules will resume in September 2024, so check timelines if traveling after that.
- Always verify train timings on official websites like SBB for the most accurate information.

Hi, I have read your post on travelling from Switzerland to Italy and in the quick overview section, the duration from Milan to Zurich by train (EuroCity: direct connection) takes about 3hrs 20mins. However when I was checking the train timings in omio & SBB website, the duration of the train ride is 4hrs 17mins (taking Eurocity) and I could not find any other trains of 3hrs+ duration. Hence I was wondering if I had missed anything in terms of booking? Thank you!
