I have been to Switzerland in 2002 on a 16-day European tour (9 countries). Did not remember much, only the ride to Mt Pilatus. My husband and I just retired this year 2016 and we decided to travel. We live in the US now. We did 3 cruises in 2016. For 2017, we have joined a land tour (by bus only) for the month of April to visit Austria, northern Italy and Switzerland (southern part - St Moritz, Zermatt, Montreux and on to Lucerne via Interlaken. (flight starts/ends in Zurich). I will have an idea of the places for the second trip. A second trip in late spring will start in Trier Germany and on to Baden-Baden, then to Murren (not visited in the first trip) in the Berner Oberland, going up to Munich, Germany and ends in Austria also by bus and by cable car and regional/local train. There will be an overlap in Austria but this second one will include Halstatt. Our flight from the US ends in Zurich. We have bought a Eurail 3-country pass flex (discounted price by 12/31) to be used for our trips to Trier where the land tour starts and maybe take an OBB Railjet from Vienna to Zurich and extend our travel in Switzerland. We will utilize the remaining days from our Eurail 3-country pass flex to visit attractions not included in the two prior trips using the Panorama trains instead of buses. In summer, after our Alaska cruise, we will come back to Switzerland (got cheap round trip flights) and visit Berner Oberland again if we may. We have a very busy 2017 and hope to visit more places while we can. Switzerland is the place I have dreamed of visiting during my childhood days in the Philippines. That is 50 years ago! God willing, we plan to visit a lot more places while our bodies allow us to.
