    HI,

We with our 17 year old boy travelling to Switzerland via Paris starting first week of June’ 19 with below travel itinerary.

    Day 1-3: Paris

Day 4 (Noon) : Train to Montreux Via Geneva

Day 5: Explore Montreux / Vevey

Day 6: (Morning) Train Gstaad using Golden Pass route, Explore city, Shopping and night in Gstaad

Day 7 : (Noon)Train to Wengen using Golden pass route

Day 8 : Wengen (Ballenberg Museum and Jungfraujoch)

Day 9 – 10: Train to Lucerne (City tour, Mt Pilatus and Mt Titlis )

    Day 11 -12: Zurich

    Queries: –

Is this itinerary (day 4 – 12) reasonable and doable?

Please suggest if any changes required?

Is Gstaad worth a visit or we should just maximize our time in Wengen or Lucerne?

We are planning to buy a Swiss travel pass for our complete itinerary except the train from Paris to Geneva and believe that train from Geneva to Montreux is covered by Swiss travel pass? Please advise.

    Thanks,

    RS

Hi Richa14 and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

Nice to hear you’re coming to Switzerland!

Your itinerary overall is very nice and covers lots of fantastic destinations, well done!

On Day 10 I believe it will be practically impossible doing Mount Titlis and Mount Rigi in one day, Mount Rigi and Mount Pilatus are more realistic:

To check detailed travelling times and connections use the timetable, make sure you read how it works, it’s a superb tool for planning:

I think Gstaad is worth the visit but then again Lucerne also has lots to offer, and so does Wengen, so the choice will be yours.. 🙂

Check the “What to do” tabs.

Your journey from the SWISS BORDER os covered by the Swiss Travel Pass, please check:

    Hope this provides some inspiration.

    Hi,

Thanks for providing the links but now we are more confused as after going through “Things to do list” it seems like that our itinerary includes too many places “(5) to be precise” to cover within 8 days and we will be squeezed for time, therefore we are trying to add a day in our travel plan but still not very sure if no. of days planned are enough and looking forward for some expert opinion/s.

    – Please advise if below revised itinerary is better than earlier and doable or else we are open to remove either Gstaad or Montreux or both and add those days to any other location. i.e. Wengen or Lucern.

Day 4: Arrive Montreux (mid day)

    Day 5: Montreux

Day 6: Arrive in Gstaad (mid day)

    Day 7: Gstaad

Day 8: Arrive in Wengen (mid day)

    Day 9: Wengen

Day 10: Arrive in Lucerne ( mid day)

    Day 11: Lucerne

Day 12: Arrive in Zurich (midday)

June 13: Zurich and flight back in the evening

    Thanks,

    RS

    Hello RS,

Yes, the itinerary still looks nice an do-able, and as you say, a little more comfortably paced.

You can maybe “just” visit Gstaad on the way to Wengen for an early lunch break e.g. and continue your journey from there on regular trains.
The additional time you can add it either to the Wengen area or the Lucerne area, as there’s lots to do and see in both. (use above links for details)

I personally would NOT skip Montreux and the Lake of Geneva, it’s a lovely area and worth exploring:
    http://www.myswissalps.com/mo ntreux

As you plan to get the Swiss Travel Pass you will always have the options of adding spontaneous trips on any of the days, as most journeys are covered by the pass and your flexibility accordingly high.

    Best,
    Steph

    Thanks Steph.

    We will follow your advise.

However, could you also please advise if we go to Wengen or Lucerne first as seems there is no direct train from Montreux to Wengen? Is there any Link showing the train route as already checked —– http://www.raileurope-gcc.com/plan-your-trip/travel-ideas-and-itineraries/ —– but can’t see the train routes within Switzerland

Also slightly confused between Euro Global rail pass and Swiss pass? Would you be able to advise better option as we will be travelling from Paris to Geneva as out first entry point.

OR we should stick to Point to Point Tickets?

    Awaiting you inputs.

    Thanks

    Hi Arno / Steph,

Firstly thanks a lot for providing all the above details / info. As we are very excitedly nearing our travel date, we are considering below changes to our itinerary.

    – Omit Gstaad from our itinerary and after spending 2 nights in Montreux, on day 6, travel directly to Lucerne (instead of Wengen) using Goldenpass and stay in Lucerne for 5 nights before moving to Zurich.

    Queries:

What is your opinion about the changes compare to earlier itinerary?

If we decide to base in Lucerne, is it still practical to visit Jungfraujoch?

Awaiting your expert opinion / suggestion to finalize our bookings.

    Thanks

    RS

    Hi Richard

I would personally still stay in Wengen for 1 night at least in order to travel to Jungfraujoch… Given that this is a very weather dependent destination you will maybe need 2 nights to maximise your chances.

You can still get there from Lucerne but it is 4 hours instead of 1 hour 11 minutes so would make for a long day! You could maybe stay in Wengen 2 nights and in Lucerne 3 or something. You can see this for yourself by using the timetable http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

You should also use the timetable to see if all the other destinations on your itinerary are doable and if you are comfortable with the duration of your stay at each place.

There is plenty to do in Wengen if the weather is not ideal for Jungfraujoch: http://www.myswissalps.com/we ngen

Hope this helps to finalise your trip!

    Maria.

Thanks Maria. Appreciate your quick reply and as suggested, we will stick to Wengen as per original plan.

    Thanks again.
