Hi, i was wondering if people could help. I am travelling from Geneva to interlarken on the 3 rd of August with my husband and 2 children aged 10 / 8. We will be staying in interlarken and travelling out to see the mountains walking and exploring the lakes. We are staying for 6 nights ( so 7 days travel ) and will then return to Geneva to fly home to the Uk. I have researched travel passes and can not decided if a 8 day rail pass would be the best option for myself and my husband and the children will then come free. Or if other options like the half fare rail card would be better.

I realised the mountain trains are not covered on the passes, but offer a discount.

I just thought I would take advise before buying passes that are quite expensive.

Any advise would be gratefully received

    Thanks

    Jo Wise

    Hi Jo,

Welcome to MySwissAlps! These 3 options are worth your consideration:

The only way to tell what’s cheapest in your specific case, is to do the math based on your (tentative) itinerary: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass.

I have been stalking the forum and website for several weeks, and the information has been very helpful. We are heading to Switzerland for 10 days later this week (including a 7-night stay in Wengen), and I have been trying to figure out which pass(es) would work best for my wife, 12-year old son, and me. I am still struggling but hopefully getting closer to an answer.

With regard to the HFC mentioned above, does it provide half-off fares for all trips and modes of transportation that we might encounter in Switzerland? Or, are there exceptions?

Also, I know that children traveling with with an adult holding a HFC and Swiss Family Pass generally don’t need tickets of their own. The trip to Jungfraujoch is an exception (and kids must secure a free ticket), but are there are other examples of where kids need a ticket in the same way? And, are there instances where kids need a paid ticket of some kind and the HFC/Swiss Family Pass combo does not work for them? Thanks.

    Hi WesB, welcome to MySwissAlps!

Here’s a short answer: there aren’t many exceptions to the 50% discount with a Swiss Half Fare Card. Please study http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard/validi ty. Kids with a Swiss Family Card travel along for free, to Jungfraujoch as well: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issfamilycard. Only in case of seat reservations (not required either for Jungfraujoch, see http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfraujoch/tickets) you’ll have to pay for their seats.

If you have further questions, would you please open a new topic? This one’s about Jo Wise’s rail pass questions. Thank you!
