Hi Alka,
Point-to-point tickets would be your best option:
- Zürich Flughafen (airport) to Luzern (2nd class single journey) adult CHF 30; child aged 6-15 CHF 15
- Zürich HB (Hauptbahnhof i.e. main station) to Zürich Flughafen (3 zones, 2nd class single journey) adult CHF 6.80; child aged 6-15 CHF 3.40. If your hotel is in central Zürich, i.e. in zone 110, that ticket will also cover the journey from your hotel to Zürich Hauptbahnhof by train, tram or bus.
Tickets can be bought from the multi-lingual ticket machines at the station on your day of travel. There are also ticket machines at most tram and bus stops.

There is also a tramway to Zurich airport. If your hotel happens to be near that it will be simpler than the train

The Luzern ticket might be cheaper with the new advance tickets depending on date of travel

Hi 1960man,

Yes, when I am staying near Central I use the tram to get in from the airport. For getting out to the airport to catch a flight however, I prefer the train.

Which new tickets do you mean? If you mean the Saver Day Pass, in order to get a ticket for anything approaching CHF 30, you also need to pay CHF 120 for a Swiss Half Fare Card.

I was thinking Supersaver but it looks like they are not available for ZRH – Luzern

Yes, Supersaver tickets are not new, and I have used them myself on that route, so they do make them available at times. But they have to be bought online in advance, and are for a specific departure. If you miss the train, you have to buy a new ticket.
When arriving on an international flight, you would have to allow plenty of leeway to be sure of getting through customs and immigration in time to catch your train. You might then end up hanging around at the airport instead of getting on your way immediately after getting through all the formalities.
Personally, I think those tickets are more useful when you have more control over your exact departure time, but in the end it’s a personal choice between convenience and cost.

There are SuperSaver tickets for that route on some days and some times – I see them as low as 21chf or so (without a Swiss Half Fare Card).

You can use the Swiss railways timetable to search from Zurich airport to Seeburgstrasse 79, Lucerne and it will give you the schedule and the price (the first price you see is for Swiss Half Fare Card users – double it to get the regular fare).
