Hi- We will be traveling from Zurich to Lucerne on August 1st via train and then plan to take the boat to Vitznau to spend a few hours exploring Mt Rigi, with a return to Lucerne via boat from Weggis. I have read that some transportation schedules are modified on Aug 1, the Swiss National Holiday, but after checking the SBB timetables for the train I didn’t see any remarks about this. Should I assume that the trains are running their normal schedule on this day?

Also, could you please advise for the best website to use to find boat schedules for Lucerne and Interlaken? I’ve been having difficulty locating this information.

Thank you. I have found this forum to be immensely helpful in planning our 9 day trip to Switzerland!! It’s coming up in two weeks- so excited!!!!

Hello Bonmark and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

Nice to hear you’re so excited about coming to Switzerland!

If the timetable shows you a connection on the 1st of August, then you will have one! It’s a holiday, a Sunday, so some few trains might run less regularly. However it’s also a day off for all Swiss people (who often do day trips on this additional day off) and thus transportation has to be guaranteed.

Find timetables for the lakes you’re asking for attached and also see:

    Steph-

Thanks so much for the information and the speedy reply. I didn’t realize that by using the “advanced search” on the Timetable, that ALL modes of public transport are shown, boats included. This is wonderful! Now I feel much more confident about navigating your beautiful country via public transport during our first (and most likely not last) visit! I live in a rural area of the USA and am not used to taking public transportation, but with the amazing help this forum has provided me in my countless hours of planning this trip, I think I’ve got this 🙂 Thanks again!

    Hi Bonmark93 –

This is probably redundant, but I like to go to the complete original source when I can:
