    hi

    thanks

now thinking abt best way to travel. we 2 adults and 2 children between 6 to 16 years. 1st day arriving zurich airport at around 6 pm in august. that day not much to do.

second day will reach zurich hb and get a pre booked zurich tour with them . hotel is around 1.5 miles from there.

then third day go to luzern via train from hb. will get a pre booked tour to mountains from luzern station. we will be taken back to luzern station by that pre booked tour..

then 4th day will take a panoramic ride from luzern to interlaken to zweissimen to montreux first classs. on way back from montreux to luzern we will take regular train as it will be quick.

then 5th day will check out from luzern n reach via train to zurich airport to get a flight .

its chf 824 if i go to swiss travel passs site and then select 2 adults 2 children 1st class tickets ( children free) for 4 days. n if i select regular fare (dont buy a pass m get tickets everytime) its also around 860 chf. there is no option for a 5 day travel card.

keeping in view itinerary what u think which pass to buy?

    Hi Beenaeem,

No, unfortunately there is no 5 day Swiss Travel Pass, only 3, 4, 8 or 15. How much train travel are you looking to do that isn’t included on your tours? You may want to look at the Swiss Half-Fare card if you are only taking a couple of trains on your own. If you get the free Family card (with either the Swiss Travel Pass or Half-Fare card) the 6 year old is free.

Another way to save money is to travel 2nd class rather than 1st. There is not much difference between the two classes except on the panoramic trains.

    Regards,
    Lucas

children 11 and 13 years old. we will take a train/bus from zurich airport to hotel where hotel is near zurich hb. then second day we will reach shilquai bus station n have a guided tour. then third day we will go to luzern by train n get a guided tour to mt titlis. then 4th day we will take a panoramuc train ride uptil montreux and then come back fron montreux via regular train to luzern. then 5th day we need to go to zurich airport from luzern via train again . so what is economical? if we get a travel pass for 4 days and the last day or at the day of arrival we just buy the tickets ourselves. or we gwt a half fare card or we dont get a pass at all or we book a second class journey but with getting second class journey card how can we book a seat on panoramic train ride for first class?

    Hi Beenaeem,

Ok, sorry, I miss-read your child ages. Both children are free if you purchase the half-fare card or the Swiss Travel Pass (as long as you add on the Family pass at no charge).

The only way to know for sure what the most economical pass would be is to search for the train connections you want on the Swiss timetable here.

Then use the excel document linked on our page “How to choose the best Swiss rail pass” and do the math on the excel sheet.

In the end I think a 2nd class Swiss Travel Pass for 4 days with the family card is your best bet, but do the math to be sure.

If you get the 2nd class Swiss Travel Pass you can upgrade to 1st class for the panoramic trains at the rail station before boarding your train.

    Regards,
    Lucas

PS if your hotel i Zurich is near the train station (Zurich hb) then you can just walk to the sihlquai bus station – it is across the street from Zurich hb.
