Any advice on what is the most cost effective solution. We are 2 adults and 2 children (6&8). We need to go from Geneva to Martigny on March 31st, then maybe after a week of skiing we would like to go to sightseeing by train for a 2-3 days. Is it better to buy 2 Swiss Cards for the adults on March 31 or buy 2 regular tickets and wait to get the 2-1 Swiss Pass in April?? I suppose I need to know what the cost of a one way ticket GVA to Martigny fro 2 adults & 2 children on March 31.

Hello fenmiri, and welcome! A single trip from Geneva to Martigny costs CHF 39 per adult (the children fare is 50% off). Looking at this trip only, regular tickets would be cheaper than using Swiss Cards. But please note that the Swiss Card could be the better solution if you plan to use public transportation during your week skiing as well, since it provides a 50% discount on your further trips.

As for the second part of your trip: depending on your exact travel plans, the 2 for 1 offer on the 4 day Swiss Pass could be a great deal indeed. The children will travel along for free if you order along the free STS Family Card. Here's how to calculate which pass is best for the trip you have in mind.
