Hi, I will be heading to Switzerland (Zermatt, Wengen, Bern, Interlaken, Lausanne and Lucerne) next month from 6 to 12 August, and will be travelling to Germany (Stuttgart & Munich) from 12 to 18 August, and back to Switzerland (Zurich) for 3 nights before flying back home.

I’m thinking of getting the 8 days Swiss Travel pass for the days when Im at Switzerland from 6 to 12 August. Is 3 nights at Zurich worth getting another Swiss Pass?

Could you please advise the best rail pass / cost saving transport method for this trip? It will be a really great help, thank you!

Hello Nellyccy and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

Nice to hear you’re coming along to Switzerland.

Which rail pass is best for you strongly depends on your itinerary, so an overall answer is quite difficult to give. Use the link provided by Pvonk for a step by step instruction on choosing rail passes.

See an overview of available rail passes, both national and multi-country below:

If you mainly move around in the local Zurich area on the last days, you won’t need a Swiss Travel Pass, but again, it depends on your plans those days.

Maybe looking into the Swiss Half Fare Card might be a valid recommendation, as this is valid for one month and would thus cover all days you’re staying in Switzerland.

Thank you for your advice! There’s one more thing I want to clarify is that does the Swiss travel pass covers the trip from a train ride from Switzerland to Germany?

    Hello Nelliecc,

No, the Swiss Travel Pass only covers the journeys WITHIN Switzerland. There are, however, also multi-country rail passes. Check the links of my first post for details.

    Best,
    Steph
