We are planning the below itin for 8 day Swiss Travel Pass:

    Day 1: Zurich Old Town

Day 2: Train from Zurich to Lucerne (1 hour). After lunch, take the Golden Pass train to Interlaken (3 hours). Overnight in Interlaken

Day 3: Morning in Interlaken (Harden Klum and Hoheweg). After lunch, take the train to Bern (1 hour) Old Town, Return to Interlaken for overnight stay

Day 4: Take the Golden Pass train to Montreux (3 hrs 15 mins). Visit the Chateau de Chillon. After lunch, take a train to Geneva Old Town.

Day 5: Take the train from Montreux to Zermatt (2.5 hours). Hike through Hinterdorf to Edelweiss Alterhaupt (1 hour).

Day 6: Take the Glacier Express to St. Moritz (8 hours)

Hiking in Engadine valley and overnight in St. Moritz

Day 7: Take Bernina Express from St. Moritz to Tirano in Italy (2 hours). From Tirano take the Bernina Express bus to Lugano (3 hours). Take boat to Gandria and walk back (45 minutes walk) to Lugano.

Day 8: Take the Gotthard Panorma train from Lugano to Fluelen. Then take the boat to Lucerne. Take the train from Lucerne to Zurich. Entire journey is 6.5 hours.

    1. On Day6 is Chur better or St. Moritz?

    2. Is the Bernina Express Bus and boat ride to Gandria free with Swiss Travel Pass?

    3. If we add another day for Gstaad, what type of pass should we buy?

    Hello NIta,

    1. “Better than” is very subjective. Chur would be cheaper than St Moritz and you then get to do the whole Bernina Express.

    2. Yes but you need to make reservations on Glacier Express and Bernina Express and bus and Gotthard Panorama train. Reservaitons are all on top of the fares covered by the STP.

3.Well you only need your STP to start on day 2 (would be a waste just to use in Zurich unless you are planning to visit lots of museums and galleries) so you have a day up your sleeve. If you run out of days look at a Saver Day Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/on edaytravelpass/details) and bit.ly/2rkekat for your last day.

    Hi Rockoyster –

<<“1. “Better than” is very subjective. Chur would be cheaper than St Moritz and you then get to do the whole Bernina Express.”>>

I could not agree more. One person’s “better” is another person’s “boring.”

However, in this case, one can safely say that there are a lot more tourist attractions at St. Moritz , including some nice mountain cableways and funiculars, than at Chur. As always, there are trade-offs and choices. My preference would be to pick St. Moritz.

I like to go up to Muottas Muragl for lunch, and, if there is time, take the easy and quite scenic walk to Alp Langard, then cableway down to Pontresina.

    Hi Nita

    My suggestions below

    Day 1: Zurich Old Town

You may want to consider a trip to the Rhine Valley (just 40 mins by train from Zurich)

Day 2: Train from Zurich to Lucerne (1 hour). After lunch, take the Golden Pass train to Interlaken (3 hours). Overnight in Interlaken

I would take the two hour cruise (covered under the Swiss Pass) that goes through marcote and stops at Ponte Tresa (Italy) for a gelato break …and hop off at Gandria on the way back

    1. On Day6 is Chur better or St. Moritz?

Chur does not have much in the city itself unlike St Moritz . While the trip from Chur you miss you the signature Swiss Landwasser Viadicut (covered on the route from St Moritz)…As rock oyster said its subjective , I would suggest St Moritz .

    2. Is the Bernina Express Bus and boat ride to Gandria free with Swiss Travel Pass?

It is free ..though you need to reserve the seats . The bus from Tirano to Lugano is the most effective way to reach Lugano …but its quite low in terms of scenic beauty.

    3. If we add another day for Gstaad, what type of pass should we buy?
