    Hi

Possible to complete this itinerary within a day:

    1. Take train from Luzern to Arth-Goldau and transfer to Rigi Scheidegg to start hike to Rigi Kaltbad

    2. Take Cogwheel up to Rigi Kulm from Rigi Kaltbad station.

    3. spend some time at the top of Mt Rigi

    4. Visit the Alp Chäserenholz cheese dairy and have lunch there

    5. Either head back to Mt Rigi to star hike (Classic Rigi Hike -Rigi Kulm – Staffel – Staffelhoehe – Kaenzeli – Rigi Kaltbad)

    6. Have a bath at Mineralbad & Spa Rigi Kaltbad

    7. Head back to Luzern via Vitznau.

Or there is better direction to complete the above route?

for the hikes, are there makers along the way to guide us?

    Hi CharC,

I think this is fairly doable if you start out early in the morning. The hike from Rigi Scheidegg to Rigi Kaltbad is fairly easy, about 6.5km and should take about 2hours based on average estimates. The trail is well marked. Be sure to follow the signs to Rigi Kaltbad as the trail splits at some point and you might end up doing a loop or hiking all the way to Rigi Kulm. I think the visit the cheese and dairy farm is great plan! I might skip the hike from Rigi Kulm to Rigi Kaltbad though and just take the train down so you can spend more time at the top and also at the wellness centre at Rigi Kaltbad. And instead of travelling back to Lucerne via Vitznau, you can take the gondola down from Rigi Kaltbad to Weggis and either travel on a boat or bus back to Lucerne.

More details in the following links:

    Regards,

    Anna

    Hi Anna

    thanks for the reply.

Just to check if we would like to catch the last boat back to Lucerne from Weggis (18:05), is it possible that we take the cable car from Rigi Kaltbad at 17:40 to Weggis (reach at 17:50). Noted that we need to take a bus from the cable car station to the Pier.

    Hi CharC,

There are no regular buses between the cable car valley station in Weggis and the boat dock, so count on walking down: https://www.myswissalps.com/rigi/gettingthere. You should be able to manage this in 15 minutes; the official time indicated is 11 minutes.

It’s up to you to decide if you feel comfortable with that. If you prefer to have more time, you can take the 17:10 cable car down. Spending some time along the beautiful lakeside promenade of Weggis while waiting for the boat isn’t bad either :-).

    hi

i did a search on SBB and saw that there is a bus 502 from the station to the pier.

    Can confirm if that’s correct?

    Hi CharC,

Yes, you are right! I found that bus too. You need to do a search from “Weggis, Seilbahn” to “Weggis, Schiffstation”: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable. These are the bus stop names.

Yep, there is! I probably did a search for one of the few days on which this bus isn’t available. We’ll also mention this option at https://www.myswissalps.com/rigi/gettingthere.
