We will be lodging in Grindelwald for three nights in January & would like to take a couple day trips from there to scenic mountain villages. We’ve been to First and Jungfraujoch so we’d like to see somewhere new. Murren & Wengen look interesting. If you suggest these as good options, should we plan this as a one day outing or two separate days. Other suggestions would be appreciated. Please include suggested transportation and route.
We plan to travel by rail from Zurich to Grindelwald and return by rail four days later. Combined with the desired mountain travel day trips should we buy the 1/2 fare pass? Should we buy in advance or at the Airport in Zurich?

You should definitely make time to visit Mürren and Wengen. These are very lovely villages to explore in any season. I think in winter they would look magical. It is possible to visit both places in one day, perhaps include Lauterbrunnen in the mix too. You can easily plan your journey using the SBB timetable. You can download an app from the link below.
