Does the coronavirus affect trips to Switzerland?

Short summary – read this first

The thread was started by tourists seeking clarity on travel to Switzerland amidst COVID-19 challenges. They wanted to know entry requirements, testing protocols, and local health certificates. Information shared included updates on vaccination recognition, potential quarantine measures, and the ease of accessing COVID-19 tests in Switzerland.

Key takeaways:
  • Travelers need a valid COVID certificate or proof of vaccination to enter restaurants and other indoor venues in Switzerland.
  • Non-EU visitors can apply for a Swiss COVID certificate online if vaccinated with an accepted vaccine.
  • The COVID test must be taken within 72 hours before arrival in Switzerland, and travelers are encouraged to check specific local regulations before their trip.

    Hi Switzerland travelers!

It looks like all countries that are currently still on Switzerland’s ‘high-risk country list’ will be removed from this list by May 2 2022. This would mean that from May 2, normal entry rules apply to all travelers as they were before the pandemic. Proof of vaccination and/or recovery shouldn’t be required anymore.

The gov. website has been update and states: The entry restrictions currently in place will be lifted from 2 May. As of that date, the usual rules for entering Switzerland will apply.

It would actually be nice to see your happy dances, luvmystang and Chris C ;-)! We too are very pleased with these new developments, and we hope that corona-related entry restrictions will no longer be necessary from now on.

    Hi,

We will be spending 15 days in Switzerland in July and then flying return from Zurich to Vienna for 7 days. We have a Schengen visa and are fully vaccinated. Is there any travel restrictions/requirements for travel between Switzerland and Austria for non EU travelers?

    Thank you

    Theresa

    Hi Theresa bloc,

If you are travelling to Austria, you should check with the Austrian travel authority about the latest entry requirements for non-EU citizens.

You can find some details here: http://www.oesterreich.gv.at/en/themen/coronavirus_in_oesterreich/pre-travel-clearance.html, but if you need further clarification, you should contact them directly.

    Regards,

    Anna

Hey everyone! I’ll be visiting Switzerland the 1st week of June. I was wondering if there are new travel updates / restrictions? I hope that there will still be no travel restrictions.

    Thanks!

    Hi Anna,

I am sorry this is a little off topic… We are traveling by TGV train from Basel – Paris this June. We are fully vaccinated. Do you know if we need to fill out the Passenger Locator Form to enter France by train?

    Thank you.

    Thy

    Hi Thy,

Yes, I think you may still need to fill out a form to enter France.

You can find more information here: http://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/en/coming-to-france/

    Hi Anna,

Thank you for the link. I went on and check out this link and also contacted SNCF Connect and no Passenger Locator Form required for people entering France by train, but it is required for people entering by air. I just want to share this.

As always, you are a huge help to us to plan our trips. I can’t thank you enough.

    Hi Samuelxchang,

No, there are no monkeypox-related travel restrictions. If such measures are announced, we’ll post updates in the forum. At the moment case numbers are low and there’s no problem for traveling. Let’s hope it will stay that way :-)!

We are arriving in Switzerland next and will be proceeding to Venice. Would anybody be able to let know if there are currently any requirements / restrictions for travelling from Switzerland to Venice for Non-EU citizens. Everyone in our group is an Indian Passport holder.

    Thanks

We just returned from 15 days in Switzerland, including crossing the border into France (Chamonix), and Italy a couple of times while on the Bernina Express (had lunch in Tirano, before we continued back into Switzerland.) Our passports were not checked when crossing the borders on the trains/busses, but were required a few times when presenting our Swiss Travel Passes on the Swiss rail network. We had our Covid vaccination cards but they were not ever required either. People of all nationalities seemed to be traveling freely and very few wore masks. We used masks when in close quarters (such a cable cars and other mountain lifts) as there were a fair number of people coughing everywhere we went. We kept our masks in a handy pocket to pop on when we were in crowded areas.
