    Hello!

I am going to Grindelwald for one week from the 28th October. Could I please have some advise of where to go and what to visit. I understood some activities are closed by that time. Thank you in advance for the help

    Hi Eva Katarina,

Welcome to the forum. Grindelwald is a good base for exploring the wonderful Jungfrau region

Unfortunately, some of the trails and cable cars to the mountains may be closed for maintenance, from 27 October to mid December, as the region gets ready for the winter season. But there are still plenty to see in and around the area.

The Harder Kulm (1322m) near the Interlaken Ost station is open until 1 December. The Staubbach Falls in Lauterbrunnen is available all year.

The car-free villages of Murren and Wengen are lovely places for sightseeing anytime of the year.

From Interlaken, which is a short train ride from Grindelwald, you can easily take the ferry to Thun and/or Brienz.

Interlaken itself is pretty central for making day trips to Lucerne, Bern or Zurich if you wish.

We recommend you get one of the Swiss railpasses for a smooth and seamless travel.

    Enjoy your trip.

    Hi Eva Katerina –

Thanks for including your dates. As you can see, they are important to know.

As noted, many of the cableways in the Jungfrau and Grindelwald area stop running on the day that you arrive in Grindelwald.

So we can help you better, do you have any special or particular interests? Hiking, museums,………..

Ans, will you be elsewhere in Switzerland before you go to Grindelwald?

Perhaps you can rearrange your schedule if that is the case?

    Hi Slowpoke,

Thank you for your message. I am going with my 70 year old parents and my 10 year old son. I have hired a car from Zurich airport and will be driving to Grindewald. We arrive there around 9 am. So will probably have time to look around before we had towards Grindewald.

Also I am more then happy to drive around the country as long as It can be a day trip and visit other places.

I was hoping to go up to the top of Europe if open. What would you suggest to be the best way to get there and tickets wise too.

We never been to Switzerland so will be happy to see anything and break up the week with hiking and visiting places too. Museums, lakes, mountains anything you suggest it would be very much appreciated.

    Many thanks 😊

    Eva

    Hi Eva-

There are certainly good reasons to rent a car, for a party of four with some members who might not want to handle luggage. And, if you do not plan to use much of the public transport, with discounted fares using a train pass.. Driving in the cities is definitely not a good reason, and parking can cost easily 50C HF per day in the major cities… about the cost of renting a car for one day…. more than that for overnight in the garage by the Bahhnhof in Luzern, for example.

And, if you do use public transport, you will all have a chance to view the scenery, instead of the driver having to concentrate on the road.

Bern is a nice day trip. About an hour from Interlaken Ost by train, two or three trains per hour.

Anna gave you a batch of good ideas.

In addition to her link to rail passes, I’d suggest:
