We are planning a trip within Switzerland and France and are trying to determine the best means of rail transportation for our trip. Our itinerary is as follows:

    • Arrive in Paris
    • Travel via train to Lauterbrunnen/Jungfrau Region
    • Spend a few days touring Jungfrau region via local rail and mountain transportation
    • Travel to Lucerne via rail
    • Spend a day in Lucerne using mountain transportation (cable cars etc)
    • Travel to Colmar, France via rail
    • Travel to Paris via rail

We are wondering which option would be the cheapest and most efficient. We are debating between purchasing a 2 country Eurail pass, OR buying point to point tickets in and out of Switzerland and buying a Swiss travel pass while in Switzerland. If anyone has information about which of the two options would be best, it would be very appreciated!

Hi ggbrad326 and welcome to MySwissAlps!

You will need to check the prices of all your planned train, bus, gondola, boat tickets (you plan to take) and do the math to compare prices. We have a page here on how to choose the best rail pass that has a spreadsheet to help you.

I doubt the Eurail Select Pass would be a good choice unless you are planning several trips within France but you never know.

Most likely you would look at point to point tickets to/from Switzerland along with either the Swiss Travel Pass and the Swiss Half Fare Card.
