Hi, we wish to travel Lucerne – Fluelen (boat) and Fluelen – Lugano GPE on 29 September. We intend to use our FIP cards with SP Coupons for (free) boat trip and train. We only have standard FIP cards so we need to pay supplements to upgrade to 1st Class on train. We also need reservations for (standard class) boat and (1st class) train. Is it possible to book on-line? We don’t want to wait until we arrive in Switzerland in case we cannot get seats closer to our intended travel date. Many thanks for any advice you can give us

To upgrade from 2nd class to 1st class, you just pay the price difference as explained here: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/practical/2nd1stclass

From what I know, the FIP cards do not grant free travel on Lake Lucerne, but give 50% (1/2 fare) on 2nd class. I think you will need a 2nd class 1/2 fare ticket per FIP traveler.
No need to buy the 1st class upgrade for the boat in advance. You can do this at the boat pier in Lucerne, or at the SBB travel center in Lucerne.
For the GPE, you can buy a full fare class upgrade for the route, it is available online.
It is simpler – if you prefer – to get any boat Luzern – Fluelen, then take the Treno Gottardo regional express over the Gotthard mountain route
