About tickets and reservations
This is what you need for the Gotthard Panorama Express:
- Boat: a 1st or 2nd class ticket or a 1st or 2nd class rail pass. A reserved seat in the boat restaurant is optional.
- Train: a 1st class ticket or 1st class rail pass. You need an upgrade ticket for 1st class if you have a 2nd class ticket or rail pass. The train only has 1st class seats.
- Train: a surcharge. You can best book the surcharge well in advance, because it includes train seat reservations which can be sold out.
You're not required to travel the full stretch from Lucerne to Lugano or vice versa.
