How the map works

  • Free and discounted traveling is explained at the bottom of page 1.
  • Traveling with the Eurail Global Pass applies to all trains that operate on the indicated lines and that are listed in the timetables. The train type (InterCity, local, panoramic) and the operating company do not matter.
  • Note that high-speed trains in France may offer a limited number of seats for Eurail pass holders, so please book early. This limit does not apply to TGV Lyria trains connecting France to Switzerland.
  • In the case of Flexi passes, you can travel on the free routes on your selected free travel days only. You'd need a full-fare ticket for these routes on the other days. But you can use the discounted routes on all days of your pass validity, whether or not it's a selected free travel day.

Eurail Global Pass FAQ

  1. How do I know if the Eurail Global Pass is my best option?

It’s a good option if you have planned a lot of traveling in multiple countries, mostly by train. Point-to-point tickets are likely more expensive.

The pass is worth it if you want to be flexible. The Eurail Global Pass allows spontaneous trips at no extra cost.

If want to travel by bus, cable car and mountain transport too, you’d best look into the Swiss Travel Pass or Swiss Half Fare Card.

  2. Do I need reservations for Eurail in Switzerland?

No, you rarely need reservations. You can board any train on the included routes. Only a few scenic trains require a reservation.

  3. When should I buy the Eurail Global Pass?

You can buy 11 months before traveling. Passes do not sell out. You can also buy a few days before your trip.

  4. How will the pass be delivered?

Eurail passes will be delivered via e-mail and stored on your phone in the “Eurail/Interrail Rail Planner app” (mobile pass). Sometimes, there may still be an option for a paper pass. We don’t recommend that. Delivery will be slow and there’s the increased risk of losing the pass.

Note that a mobile pass requires you to have internet access at least once every 3 days.

  5. Who is the Eurail Global Pass for?

The Eurail Global Pass is only available to non-European citizens. The alternative for European citizens is Interrail.
