    HI ALL

Just looking at my previous threads and deciding how to incorporate the following into one day.

We will be travelling from Luzern and going to Grindelwald for the day in late April 2019. How do we incorporate First, Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg in one day. Is there much to see at Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg.

    Many thanks

    Debbie

    Hi Debbie,

If you have a full day it can all be done.Use the Swiss railways timetable to plan out all the trips. I’d probably do this order or the reverse is fine too of course:

    1. Arrive Grindelwald
    2. walk to First cable car explore First
    3. Return to Grindelwald station and train to Kleine Scheidegg
    4. Train to Wengen
    5. Return to Luzern

A busy day depending on how much time you want to spend on the mountains/towns before continuing on to the next destination.

I did a similar one day trip (from Zurich) and it was a long day even taking out the train travel to/from Zurich. Read about it here: http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/jungfrau-region-as-a-day-trip-from-zurich

    Thanks for that Lucas.

So with the STP we would have to pay to get to First and anything else.?

    Many thanks

    Hi Debbie,

Yes, the First cable car is 50% discounted. The train from Grindelwald to Kleine Scheidegg and Wengen is 25% discounted. The rest is free. What’s included in the Swiss Travel Pass can be found here: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity.

    Hi Lucas

Do you think its worth exploring these 2 areas given it will be late April?

    Thanks Debbie

I just looked at timetable and it is 3 hrs 10 mins from Luzurn to First. Is there anything else you would recommend doing on this travel day with First?

    Many thanks

<<“Is there anything else you would recommend doing on this travel day with First?”>>

    Yes.

Why have you chosen First? That constrains your options.

Yes it will take some time to get to First and back to Luzern as a day trip. For our recommendations in the Jungfrau region look here: http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrauregion/activitie s

Alternatively, there are other mountains closer to Luzern if you aren’t set on First.

    Hi Slowpoke

I choose First based on recommendations, however I am open to other suggestions. I haven’t included Harder Klum or a boat cruise in that region as well

Here was my 6 days, but am open to alternatives. In no particular order

Day 1 arrive Luzurn and explore same.

Day 2 The Shilthorn incorporating the Mountain walk to Murren, then exploring Lautenbrunnen on the way back.

    Day 3 , 4 and 5 Pilatus, Rigi, Titlis

Day 6 Was to go to First

Was looking at The Golden Pass but again a very long day from Luzurn.

What would you suggest instead of First?

    Many thanks Debbie

I’d consider combining First and Schilthorn on one day (though that is tricky if you want to do a hike as well).

That saves two trips to the same area from Lucerne. Alternatively, you have a lot of mountain trips planned on the trip. Perhaps you’ll enjoy a day on the trains as you note on the Golden Pass? http://www.myswissalps.com/go ldenpass/ or as you note a boat cruise: http://www.myswissalps.com/ac tivities/scenictrips/b oat

You may want to consider splitting you accommodation between Lucerne and Grindelwald (3 days each perhaps)?

Hello Lucy. Just wanted to add here. We spent 3 nights at Grindelwald (this would be very relaxed for us as we didn’t want to pack it in).

Day 1, arrived afternoon to Grindelwald from Zurich. By then too tired to go anywhere, so just walked around the Main Street (mostly sports shops and restaurants).

Day 2, we spent close to 4 hours at Jungfraujoch. There’s quite a few things to see and do at the top.

Day 3, we went up Grindelwald-First on the cable car. The views from the cliff walk were stunning and well worth the trip.

Day 4, we left for Lucerne. Hope this helps!

    Thanks everyone

With the boat from Interlaken West to Thun I have entered it in the timetable, however there are only rides from 1210 on the 19/4/19 taking 2hr 17mins. Have I entered this correctly as I thought there may be morning boat trips?

    Many thanks again

    Hi Debbie,

That seems to be correct, it is low season in April. If you travel the other way round you can depart Thun 9:40 and arrive in Interlaken 11:49.

The boat schedules change with the seasons. The frequency increases substabtiall at approximately May 23rd each year.

    http://www.bls.ch/en/fahren/u nterwegs-mit/schiff/fahrplan

Many of the mountain transport facilities have a similar or identical start up date, although some may run on weekends on the shoulders of the main seasons.

The cable way from Wengen to Männlichen starts about that time, but the trail to Kleine Scheidegg is typically oinly open partway for a few weeks until mid-to-late June, for safety reasons. Snow on some parts of the route and the trail itself near Tschuggen don’t get much sun.

Snow slides are possible well into June. By the last week of June, the trails in the region at that altitude ( around 2300-2000 meters) are generally safe.
